  • An interesting concept undercut constantly by terrible humour.

A very clearly mentally scarred man, working as an assassin gets to talk to his target, learns about him, has fun with him, despite not really knowing what fun is. Sounds like an interesting concept, fantastic for a dark character drama; and, sometimes, that shows through. There are very much some golden moments here or there within the first two episodes, but it's just not enough.

The Gritty realism is refreshing to see for once, but it's far from enough to save the show from a poor attempt at mimicking James Gunn's already heavily flawed style, (with the exception of the music)- There is barely a moment in this series within the first 2 episodes that gets to play out to its end. Nothing is allowed to breathe. Every serious moment is undercut by "humour".

If the humour was good, and actually fit in with the series, then it could work, but the characters are written to tell meta jokes to the audience, instead of being actual characters. Few of them have more than a few braincells to rub together, and when they do it's only momentarily. The tone bounces between dark, honest, and brutally upfront to a discount children's show.

An utterly wasted concept, and a damn shame.

  • A few stinkers here and there, but overall an incredible action-drama with an amazing cast of characters.

Characters 10/10 there's almost nothing to compare it to. So much time is dedicated to to every main and supporting role, and almost nothing is contradicted throughout.

Plots 7/10 mostly just fine, overall, with a few truly bad.

Theme throughout is solid, and redemption arcs that do occur are well-executed for the most part.

Season 1 is pretty meh, overall, but serves as only 1/15th of the total episode count. Consequently, the opposite end of that spectrum is astonishingly great.

  • Utterly broken writing on every level

The acting was good, the CGI was passable, considering the time constraints studios are under these days, but the writing is frankly almost as god-awful as Loki. Barely anything in this film has a reason to occur, and not a single character makes it out of the film with any coherency, reasoning, or dignity intact.

They manage to break their own Original Character (please don't steal) at the end of it.

And no, it doesn't have horror in it. It has at best a few scenes that might scare a particularly twitchy 10 year old.
