  • Credit where it's due, Kiell did good.

Sewing Bee is Sewing Bee, we all know what the challenges will be, Patrick is always Patrick and Esme is always very Esme, what changes is the host, and as much as I usually dislike him, Kiell has done a really good job (I've watched most of the series, but felt that the first episode was more appropriate for a review than his last.

I cannot stand Kiell. I hated him as Mike, he annoyed the hell out of me in guest appearances on various programs; including this one. My dislike of him is so strong I didn't watch the series the year it came out. But I've watched the whole series through a few times since then and series 11 hasn't quite finished yet, so I put on series 10 more as background noise while I read a book (yes I half listen and look up to see what the sewers have made). I read a couple of pages, and gave up, and watched the program.

Kiell isn't the hyperactive child Joe was, or the teen with ADHA Sara was, he has his own calmer but just as silly way of presenting and I can't deny that it works well.

However, the series loses stars for tosspot contestants, who don't seem to have seen the program, or have any interest in competing properly, they just want their 15 mins of fame and going on Sewing Bee and being cocky and rude, and it's just boring at best. It's not funny to ignore the pattern in a pattern challenge and tell the judges you know better. It's not clever to ignore the brief because you want to make something else. It's not impressive to fail to finish a single garment in a competition you know is timed. When you're collecting your pension you're too old to say "I've been naughty" and no-one wants to hear you say it like that, you're just a wassock who still thinks being stupid and proud of it makes you cool.

  • Everything wrong with the American "justice system", and they're proud of it.

After watching the first episode I'm so angry I can't even think straight!

350 years of "the land of the free" babbling about truth and justice, and it's still "let's screw the foreign guy". They probably see it as some kind of a achievement that he wasn't a brown foreign guy this time.

The entire incident was on video, taken by the "victims" who started filming before they started screaming abuse at the overweight, middle aged man. So we see him minding his own business, trying to ignore the repulsive accusations of the young men who were apparently thinking about having sex with little girls. We see him walk away and the lads follow, still filming. We see the trailer trash Karen come over, see that its all being filmed and start screaming in the poor man's face, and hit and push him. We see the pack close in. We see him pull out a tiny little pocket knife, and do nothing with it. We see the pack leader punch him in the face and knock him down in the river. We see him push the man back when he tries to stand up. We see another one of them try to push him face down in the water. We see the pack's prey finally fight back. We see the pack so unbothered that they just keep coming for him. ALL BEING FILMED BY A "VICTIM". We see him arrested for Intentional Murder.

Wtaf?!!! In what psychotic, vindictive, cretinous reality is that even a thought in anyone's head?

Even if you haven't seen the video (which they had) you have 13 people saying 1 50ish fat man attacked them. If someone has the mental capacity to walk, talk, and dress themselves, they can see that 1 man cannot possible attack 13 people, from 2 entirely separate groups, in a river. Without them converging on him, how did he reach? Since 13 fit, young, healthy people did converge on 1 older man, still recovering from heart surgery, how could it be murder? Is he secretly telepathic and drew them all in, so he could try and kill them with a toothpick?

The only other option is that the cops and DA sat down and said "let's screw the foreign guy". And then they televised it, just so everyone knows that if they're at all different, they're better off dying at the hands of the mob than the hands of the United States legal system.

  • An incredible story of survival and strength.

Since Stephanie is the one recounting her own story, it's not giving anything away to say she survived; which is a miracle in itself. But my gods that is one amazing woman!

If Stephanie had been broken by her ordeal she'd still be amazing, but to have survived any part of what she went through and come out whole is truly unbelievable. And to be able to talk so openly and honestly about the horror that she endured is just....... I have no words.

8 days in hell so a waste of oxygen could extort money from the company she worked for......except that it wasn't. Raping and torturing her didn't get him anything, that's not really how kidnapping for ransom works; especially if the kidnapper set the timescale and doesn't tell anyone he's hurting his captive.
