This could have been a great movie about war and its implications both at individual and society levels. It started promising but on the way it changed into one of these many cheap movies dominated by extreme agresivity, gore and blood with no much reason. Regretfully, It is far from being a political thriller, which was the reason for which I watched it. I lost this hope after the first 30 min . From there on, the movie became more and more boring and I could not even sympathise with any of the characters. It was very predictable as well . The refugee camp, the ruined cities, the cruelty of the war, were all there and made me think at the reality of our days, but there was not a really powerful message for many viewers. The movie is partially saved by the excelent acting.
I think the movie is exceptionally good. The narrative unfolds through the eyes and the memories of Bill Furlong therefore, for us, the viewers, the story grows gradually and on many levels. The movie says a lot without ostentation. I did not find the movie too long or too silent, on the contrary, I was more and more interested in how is going to end. It is a kind of open end and one leaves the cinema wondering what would have happen further. Also the end is the only time when Bill smiles and his face is lit from inside, because he finally has reached the end of his torment. Beautifully filmed and acted, it stayed with me long after leaving the cinema.
