This series is such a disappointment.
There are so many sub plots that go nowhere. A character is introduced who seems is going to be important to the show and then they just disappear.
Shetland was always about false leads but there was always a central thread.
The writers seem to have no idea of how to craft a compelling and intriguing narrative. It is so different to what we have come to expect from Shetland.
It reminds me of what happened to the last series of New Tricks.
They took something that was hugely popular and wanted to trade off the name and characters without putting the work in.
Parts of the dialogue is just completely stupid.

This show had me gripped from the first episode despite some really strange story constructions.
I'll get to those, but first I have to say the ending was incredibly unsatisfying. Almost all of the loose ends were left loose. As a whole, the series didn't make sense.
There was a police mole who really didn't have any influence on anything.
Why did Jarred do what he did?
How did the container fit in?
Perhaps the biggest question, which we knew was never going to be resolved, was why did Morris have to rely on a pretty ordinary suburban accountant to devise such brilliant schemes. He could have got anyone to do that. In fact, as it turned out, he almost didn't need her at all.
The DCI breaking all the rules and acting without any evidence of ethics gets away with it.
The financial forensic investigator seems to have a strong conscience but he has no impact on solving the crime.
Morven Christie was brilliant and her acting probably saved the show.
Overall, I'd say it was worth watching, but don't expect to understand the plot when you get to the end.

I watched the first two episodes of this series. If it weren't for Ben Miller's exceptionally good performance I wouldn't have got that far.
The concept has a lot of potential and Professor T's analysis of cases is intriguing. However the rest of the story line and acting is so poor it makes the show almost impossible to watch.
There is no intrigue in the detective work at all and no interesting character development. Even the relationship between the ex-student and the Professor is oversimplified.
The plot appears to be building up nicely and then it's over. The solution to the crime is unbelievably simple.
