This show may be dismissed by many as irreverent, excessively dramatic, and one that blurs, at best, the lines that exist between 'good' and 'evil'. Some may simply call it propaganda for devil worship.
All of those accusations are entirely justfied, yet irrelevant. This is a simple love story that transcends the traditional roles of the titled roles, showing that love rises above all, regardless of reasons. Without any allusion to the new testament (and I consider myself a Christian), the story has loosely utilized old testament and apochryphal information (stories and history most of us hold close to our heart) to emphasize the key role, the unbelievable power, of love over anything else. It played well on our emotions, and in doing so, strengthened the popular notion of faith. Faith is the foundation, along with love. So, to those who believe this to be irreverent, or even heretical, it is in fact quite the contrary. Think about it...
The mix of absurdity, with throwbacks to older days, with cartoon segments, with musical interludes, all contributed somehow to the roller coaster of emotions that this series evoked. Although seemingly out of place, in retrospect everything seems to have meshed together in such an artistic and provocative fashion that I have a difficult time being critical of the producer and director(s) for their direction.
Regardless, it is one more cinematic example of an age old story that is universally appealing; that right is might, that love conquers all, that good will always trump evil.
Part of me thought that Season 4 should have been the end. And while watching subsequent seasons, I began to think that was indeed correct. The buildup to the climax in season 6 removed any and all questions about the continuance of the series.
Thank you for an extremely well produced, directed, and casted series.

The dark humor and inappropriate humor is what makes this show great. Now, I hope it balances out with a comment about other poor choices for our leaders, assuming it was not meant to be hidden praise. Or better yet, we could leave our political commentary to the pundits, not Hollywood. Politics be dam*ed.
If the insinuation that there are evil characters in our governement, and our entertainment industry were even remotely earnest about producing such a story, it has already written itself. CNN and Fox networks broadcast the screenplay every single day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Washington DC, as well as state capitol buildings, are the sets in which more evil occurs than in any crime ridden inner city could match.
But then again, cringe seems to be the new humor.
