Could have been good but, as usual, New Hollywood decided that The Message was more important than The Movie. And so, the other white males are either evil, idiotic or redneck; the black males are heroic; the wife and child are black (how many black women are called Sheila?); and the female contestant is a loud lesbian who spends much of the movie between other girls' legs. I mean, does it have to be broadcast so loudly? We even get reference to illegal immigrants, thus ensuring that the movie will feel dated within one year.....
If Wright had concentrated more on the action within the story and less on the preaching we could have gotten an exciting and exhilarating ride, but instead we got a sermon. It's Hollywood, baby!!
Also, the ending is rubbish (more preaching) - no idea why it was changed from the book.
