  • Chappy Watched: Supergirl - Season One

The thing I don't like most about Superman and Supergirl is that a simple pair of glasses is their only disguise; I mean most of these people are supposed to be reporters!

I did start this series ages ago but only got four episodes in before I stopped. Kara was just too awkward to watch and not the adorkable awkward that Barry is on The Flash, just painfully awkward.

It wasn't until news broke that Tyler Hoechlin would be starring as Clark Kent/Superman on the show that it made me want to watch the show again.

I'm glad I did because it does get better… in some parts.

Kara and Jimmy Olsen are by far the worst characters on the show. I feel like Jimmy is only there to be the sexy, beefcake and doesn't really contribute anything to the story, including the will they/won't they between Jimmy and Kara that gets old real fast and borders on an annoying teenage drama.

Winn has his moments during the season but he is clearly the Cisco of Supergirl – down to being the technical and unlucky in love guy.

The best parts of this show are by far Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) and Hank Henshaw (David Harewood). First impressions of Cat is that she's just going to tough as nails boss, who is going to be a thorn in Kara's side but as the season goes on, she proves that she's a tough, powerful woman but has layers that are slowly revealed throughout the season.

The relationship between Alex and Hank is probably one of the best things about this show and just gets better and better towards the end of the season.

What is it with these superhero shows revealing their secret identities to everyone! So far, Supergirl hasn't been as bad as Arrow and The Flash but we are only one season in.

There are flashes of Krypton but you still don't see a lot or learn something that hasn't already been explored but through out this entire season is pop culture references, so many references including Cat Grant making a Harrison Ford joke!

Even though this is a show about Supergirl, I feel that Clark Kent/Superman does need to be in it apart from silhouettes. This is her first year being a superhero and she's going to need help especially considering some of the Kryptonian villains.

I'm very glad I went back to watching this show; I'm also very interested to see how the show will go on The CW and if it will change much.

I don't see a George Clooney or Julia Roberts movie and instantly need to see it but when I saw the trailer for this film, it did stir some interest.

The surprising thing about this film is that the two stars don't even spend that much time on screen together. They are off in different room and doing their individual jobs.

I really, really liked this movie. The cast is absolutely top notch, some might assume that with two of the biggest actors out there, that there might some ego and seniority, but all that is nowhere in sight. Jack O'Connell is absolutely brilliant in this film, he was the highlight for me in Unbroken and the same could be said with this film.

Aside form the main three actors, even all the supporting cast brought their top game to the movie! Caitriona Balfe is one example, her role of Diane Lester might not have been as big or meaty as the top roles but I still really liked seeing her character on screen.

The story is engaging and thrilling, it had me hooked and on the edge of my seat through the entire thing. There are also some pretty awesome scenes and shots in the movie and it wasn't until the end credits that I remembered that Jodie Foster directed it!

The only negative thing I have about this film is the ending; I don't know if it was because it was so action packed and fast paced that when it got to the slower paced ending, I didn't like the difference or if it was the ending itself.

As brilliant as this movie is, I'm not sure, and it's something I'm still trying to decide, that it is something I would watch again or even see the need to own.

Maybe if it's in a bargain bin down the track. Maybe.

Even if you aren't a fan of Clooney or Roberts, I definitely recommend this movie.

  • Chappy Watched: Lucifer - Season One

The main reason for me wanting to this was for Tom Ellis; he was brilliant in Miranda plus the whole heaven and hell theme so I was instantly on board for this.

There is a big part of this show – most of the season actually – that is just another cop show but this guy happens to have some 'powers' but even those aren't used on every case. There are some boring story lines through the show especially in the middle and it's not until the last two episodes that things start to pick up.

There is some bad green screen work with basic driving scenes but also a rooftop scene with some horrible work. There were some awesome bits and pieces in some of the episodes including one where the therapist, Dr. Linda Martin, goes out onto the field.

There are a lot of funny bits through the whole season, mostly Lucifer but sometimes the other cast members are the ones providing the laughs.

Something that annoyed me was the dropping, or ignoring, of story lines. Something happens at the beginning of the season between Lucifer and Chloe, the detective, which just simmers out and is only touched upon every couple of episodes.

The cast is pretty good, most of them get some character development as the season progresses but I'm not too sure about Chloe (Lauren German). I think the actress is good but I just don't think the character is being written very well; some moments she seems really smart and tough (mostly the first and last episodes) but then in other moments (the rest of the season) she gets kind of airy and it's almost like the writers are deliberately dumbing her down.

It's a show that has its ups and downs, it's not a show where I ever need to watch Season One again but I will probably watch the second season.
