This is a movie meant for people like me. It is not a big budget blockbuster with a bunch of studios behind it. This is the kind of movie that becomes a cult classic. The kind of movie that fans of RHPS, Aliens from Outer Space, and Lost Skeleton of Cadavra would appreciate. It's a genre unlike any other. People who don't know what those are, probably won't understand. But for the rest of us weirdos, this movie is the kind that we'll be quoting for decades to come. It's fun. It's cheesetastic. When I watch movies like this, it reminds me that with a little bit of effort, I could make the kind of film I love watching.
Lost Phoenix has the look and feel of a low budget B movie, and that's not a criticism. There are a lot of people who like those kinds of movies, including me. I applaud the creators for going all in and making this film. It takes a lot of guts and is more than many people even attempt. That being said, there were some continuity issues that were pretty noticeable, such as the warehouse/garage fight scene, and why the mask kept going on and coming off, without a specific reason for doing so. At least one time, he was wearing the mask in one shot, and then in the next shot it was just gone, and there wasn't time for him to have removed it and put it away. There was A LOT of dialogue. But, overall it was a pretty good flick. I see it as a stepping stone with things to learn from for their next film.
There was too much story to tell here and not enough space to tell it. It just felt like a lot of almost somethings that turned into nothings. It seems very superficial nothing was explored. Just a bunch of stuff happening g with no further explanation. Even character development was nonexistent. It was as if they through it against a wall to see what stuck, and everything stuck so they used it all, but only a little bit for each thing.
The sound effects were annoying and distracting. A bunch of overused brahm sounds placed where there really was no suspense. It was very distracting.
The choices for some of the camera shots were odd. Didn't flow with or add to the story well.
