  • A thoughtful exploration, but...

    ...a bit too slow.

The movie is overall a well-crafted film that delves into human relationships and personal struggles with an interesting enough (?) approach. The characters do feel real enough, the acting is great, their interactions are compelling to watch at times. However the pacing is quite slow in the beginning especially, which may not appeal to everyone. While the storyline has it's interesting moments (the fire is lingering around them, keeping them trapped and so the human relationships start getting more complex), it lacks momentum to keep you fully engaged throughout. The film feels longer than necessary. If you have patience for a slow-burn movie, this one has something to offer, but it might not be gripping enough for those looking for a more dynamic movie experience. I do think the movie is overrated a bit and overall just worth 6 stars. Decent for a 1 time slow watch, but nothing to praise about.

  • I guess I am the first one...

    ..to review this.

I like to discover random "indie" or "low budget", "small productions" kind of movies all the time, so I saw my fare share.

This one, I stumbled upon randomly too, without knowing anything about it.

It peaked my interest because it takes place in Switzerland. Therefore, as I expected, the imagery and landscape this all takes place is visually stunning and the director and cinematography department made some beautiful stylistic choices and experimented quite a bit with different artistic shots. The use of the scenery and surroundings was done quite well in this movie. Unfortunately that is where my praise mostly ends. The film lacks a compelling story and emotional depth, leaving it feeling hollow and unengaging. The premise had potential, but the execution felt underwhelming. So while the atmosphere and mood were quite well crafted (mostly carried by the cinematography), it isn't enough to make up for the film's lack of substance. The actors did well, acting was overall good. A decent watch for the visuals, but not a good watch if you care about a strong storyline. The 5 stars are for the visuals and cast.

  • Unexpectedly wholesome

I watched this movie without knowing anything about it really and therefore didn't expect much. It seemed like a fun little "low budget" movie at first, but ended up being a really decent wholesome movie with many touching moments and a surprisingly big twist at the end. It touched on a lot of sensitive topics, father & transgender son relationship, gender identity, abandoned child, single father, a mom that didn't want to be a mom, etc... Considering the movie packed so many sensitive topics into one movie, plus it not being a huge Hollywood production budget movie, the filmmakers did a good job. The acting isn't superb but good enough for me. Decent movie to stumble upon.
