The movie is not one of my favorites, but it's definitely worth watching. Plus, I read some good reviews about the series. So, I decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately, I found myself skipping scenes and shortly, whole episodes. I think the main issue is the actors. There's zero chemistry between the leads. Emma has constantly the same annoying expression of disapproval around Dexter. The way Anne Hathaway expressed the sweetness, kindness, understanding towards Dexter's issues, their special connection is non-existent here. It feels like a forced matchmaking without any credible reasoning. I can't see why bother watching this boring series, while one can enjoy the film.

I mean, obviously it's no jane Austen or Emily Brontë and I think it's not trying to be anything of the kind. A I see it, the main idea of this series is sex/romance and beauty, a recipe that almost always is a winner -at least as far as the mainstream audience's tendencies are concerned. I haven't read the books, so I have no idea how successful the adaptation is and I'm pretty sure it's not historically or culturally accurate. So, I don't come with high expectations, I just take it for what it is; A light-hearted, fun watch, with some intriguing fictional stories, beautiful settings and costumes and very good acting by some members of the cast - I found some characters to be poorly acted, but overall, most of them are very good.

It's been years since I first watched it, but I feel like I owe it a review. Especially when it's a raving one, as I happen to find Y. Lanthimos' work utterly intriguing, uniquely provocative, dead-serious funny. This film is the essence of allegory and as such, it should be watched with an open mind. Aiming to shake our core beliefs, it is disturbingly surreal, bizarre and controversial in an unprecedented way, at least as far as the Greek film standards are considered. As all his works do, it conveys an uncommon sadistic sarcasm, that makes me eager to meet the mastermind behind it. I've watched it several times, always hooked on the screen, eyes wide open. It's a movie you cannot forget, that deserved so many awards.
