Man, I was bamboozled by the trailer , somehow , it managed to make me think this would be a great dark comedy. What I got , was an assault on my frequency, Judy Greer's character was so grating to have to listen to , it made it difficult to get through. Everything about her , just radiating toxic, narcissistic modern day liberal female suffering from Peter Pan syndrome. She walks around with a low vibrating energy , perma-scowl and never has a positive thing to say about anything or anyone, including her super sweet sister portrayed by the (my)beloved Natasha Leone. Which , if I'm being honest , the character was written very odd , don't get me wrong, I love that she was so kind hearted , but there was something about the performance that gave off a child like naivety, she shines best playing her rough around the edges characters , IMHO. Anyway , the Constant need for shock value from the sex addict sister got old really fast. This could have been so much better.
It seems other reviewers don't have a sense of humor, because this is episode is true Bones classic . As a one time fan of the train wreck reality series Jersey Shore, it's even better. Listening to Brennan wax poetic about culture and customs as if they were some form of legitimate subspecies and how genuine and serious she is - is priceless . I LOVE the looks her and Angela exchanged when watching the workout video together at the Smithsonian.
I kept this one on my watch list for years and always said I'd get to it . I love stories , and slow burns especially, so naturally I have always held a strong penchant for television shows as my preferred method of escapism. And yesterday I found myself looking for the next GOOD one , the next epic series to grab me and keep me hooked and be my current drug of distraction . I finally began this one and so glad I did ! I'm only five episodes deep and I'm hooked ! Can't believe this is almost a decade old and I'm just now seeing it, I'm a fool for this one! I felt that twinge of familiarity the first episode and it's because the lead is Homeland from the Boys ,and he was brilliant in that too ! This is quite a departure from that role and only serves as more evidence that he's a stellar actor . The violence is definitely hardcore and yes , the sex is too , so be warned. Can't wait to see where this goes, judging from the comments here , this one is one of the best to ever come, so I'm excited .
