I went into the show on the recommendation of a friend. After season 1 - wow. This show well surpassed my expectations.
1. Jenna Ortega. Unbelievable performance. How she does not win awards is beyond me. She brought exactly that eeriness, dark, gothic look and presence required for Wednesday. She fired on all cylinders every episode. She carried the show, and brought out the best in the other actors. Bravo to her.
2. Atmosphere. The Halloween and gothic feel was perfect. The show cast a look and feel that was not corny, childish, or tween/teen. It was perfect for any age genre, and made everyone watching feel at home.
3. Writing. Honestly, for once the writing was really good. The plot for season 1 was just the right length. The writing left enough nuggets for me to keep guessing, but blazed a path to help me along the way. Characters worked within their boundaries, and Wednesday was allowed to shine.
Can't wait for season 2.

For me, Love and Monsters was a surprise sleeper hit. I went in with low expectations and came out pleasantly satisfied from a great movie. The characters pull you into the movie. The story is really good .... young love that yearns for the past, and the motivation to move forward and find what was once happiness. The monsters ... surprisingly were a match for the movie. They were not overly dumb. They didn't overtake the movie. They complemented it perfectly. The adventure of living in an old world that is now new ... with great creatures. Dispersed humans. Unknown dangers. Wrapped in with some comedy. Highly recommend.
