This film had been on my list for a few years. I had kind of forgotten about it, but with the whole situation with A. I. these days, I remembered this and got a deep interest in watching it since it was released in 2001.
This took me completely by surprise, I really didn't have many expectations, I was expecting a fine film, not an absolute masterpiece.
I had no idea Stanley Kubrick, who is one of my absolute favorite directors, was involved in it.
First off, this film looks incredible. It's already one of the most beautiful looking films I've ever seen. The lighting and the colors are breath-taking. It's so sad to see how incredibly washed-out and lifeless modern films look in comparison.
And it's just so fascinating and perhaps a bit contradictory how emotional this movie is, since it deals with a robot. But the robot looks and loves like a human, which is the whole point, so undoubtedly, you are deeply moved.
It also deals with a mother-son relationship, and I have an incredibly weak spot for those kinds of stories. This film just went places I was not expecting even in the slightest. The ending felt like a dream, which in a way it was. It felt so serene and comforting, but also deeply melancholic.
I am not that familiar with Spielberg's work, I've seen quite a few but none have resonated with me in the way this one did. This feels like a magnum opus.
As the lights in the house dimmed, and the credits started to roll, I automatically started to cry. It deals with the passage of time and the finite quality of our existence, which is something I always think about.
I cried when it ended and I cried again as I was telling my mom about the story. That coincidentally, it started to rain as I was telling her, very fitting.
Simply mesmerizing and beautiful, took me completely by surprise.

I watched this movie for the first time exactly 9 years ago. Back then, I rated it with 9 stars, and I still maintain it.
There are some movies that you just don't forget, and this is one of them. I remembered the scene with the snake and the ending, which gave me chills all over my body even though I already knew it.
I've seen other films that take place in just one setting, but none that takes it to a whole new level like this one.
This film pulls off a concept that on paper, it seems extremely hard to do properly. The movie goes a bit bonkers at times in order to keep the tension, but the anxiety and desperation always feel real. A truly ambitious movie, a one of a kind.

This was a god-awful film. Not even the ''so bad, it's good'' kind like Catwoman or the Schumacher Batman films. It is just painfully awful.
It was so lame how this was filled with almost every horror movie cliches under the sun. It was as if the filmmakers had a list and they were checking everything off.
Creepy Doll? Check Rocking chair moving on its own? Check Creepy basement? Check Creepy attic? Check Family in haunted house? Check Music box? Check Lullaby sung in a creepy way? Check
There was nothing in here that you haven't seen a million times before and executed so much better.
There was a jumpscare about every 10-15 minutes. They used the same type of jumpscare about 5 times. The characters see something in the dark, they turn the lights on, boom, it's gone, then you get a loud noise and a creepy thing.
There's no suspense, the only mildly suspenseful scene was the one with the VHS.
This was just plain terrible, it wasn't even funny.
