  • This Vasan Bala masterpiece is a roller coaster of emotions

I wish I could rate this 20 stars out of 10. It's a cinematic masterpiece. Rahul Ravindran and Vivek Gomber play great antagonists. Vivek Gomber's Hansraj Landa is a villain you'll love to hate. I knew it will be good but didn't anticipate that it will be this good. Peak cinema. Alia consistently impresses with her portrayal of Satya right from the first frame. She is fierce, intense but most importantly, she is just Ankur's sister. This just makes me more excited for Alpha. Vedang Raina has arrived and he is excellent. Not that his performance in The Archies wasn't good, but this one gives him more to chew on. The two songs Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka and Tenu Sang Rakhna especially perfectly serve the emotional core of the film which is the relationship between Satya and her brother. Watch out for the Pan India Area King song. Jigra Title track is another high. Cinematic references and transitions are really smooth particularly the cigar to fireworks one. The cinematography is brilliant and the action bits are staged beautifully. Alia proves herself as a capable action star no matter how much 5'9" model Deepika fans troll her. I digress but we haven't seen Deepika breaking down much. She mostly is seen with big watery eyes looking insanely pretty. Deepika fans should be ashamed of trolling Alia for flaring her nostrils as if it is a voluntary choice Alia makes while breaking down like SRK quivering his lips or faces of SRK, Ranbir and Hrithik vibrating in angry scenes. Manoj Pahwa is a delight to watch and adds to the emotional depth of the film. He is indeed the tiger. I am pleasantly surprised to learn that Hanshi Dao is a fictional creation which makes the seemless assimilation of natives, local culture, festivals, tradition of the prison, Indian immigrants and geographical location even more impressive. The relief we feel in the climax is extraordinary. I was teary eyed and wouldn't accept if anything were to happen to Satya and her brother. Vasan Bala cooked and how! Jigra is one of the best films I have ever watched. Period.

  • Nicely shot but very overrated.

    1. Story takes place in Bombay but everyone speaks Telugu. Every single one. Please I request Indian filmmakers to stay authentic to the story instead of pandering. Venky should have made a straight Hindi film. In 1990s Bombay, a car dealer tells Baskhar that Megastar Chiranjeevi had bought a car from them. Not Bachchan.

    2. Film says that Harshad Mehta used dot matrix printer to print fake BRs, obtained a bank's letterhead, stamp and forged signature of some AGM Hari Haran, himself. He wasn't Abdul Telgi. The film portrays him as some shadowy villainous mafia don figure who doesn't care even if someone dies just to show Bhaskar as a hero.

    3. Repeated use of the same technique of showing protagonist in trouble only to reveal what a smarta.s.s he is. There is an error during the scene where it is revealed he already removed the 10 lakhs cash from his suitcase and placed it in a tray and inverted it but the tray is facing up and down between shots.

    4. Exaggerated slapstick reactions from a few side characters like a guy acting like he is electrocuted while peeing, beggar-turned-minister comedy and stupid scenes like CBI officer clapping and saying wow like in a typical commercial movie ruin the scenes.

    5. Hilariously shows a CBI officer as part of the securities and bank receipts scam.

    6. Our protagonist is a fictional character not based on anyone who existed during HM's time. Atleast don't involve real persons in a fictional character's story. It is hard to digest that a guy amassed a total of 100 crores from HM by blackmailing him. It would have never happened. Actually it never happened otherwise it would have been in the show because it is a significant event. But this film wants you to believe that this fictional character outsmarted HM.

    7. Too many conveniences and expositions are written just to show that our protagonist can get out of any mess because he can see the future and plan ahead.

    8. That scene where Baskhar's son explains that he won't get even half the chocolate if he complained was hilarious. Who wrote that sh.it? A newly opened small-time home cooked food shop is suddenly getting huge orders from Dubai and the wife thinks this is a normal day in Bombay.

    9. The ending was also disappointing and a series of conveniencies for Baskhar. There's too much spoon feeding. Every single thing is explained in detail like the viewers are dumb and cannot think for themselves. Somehow the CBI officer is explaining how, what, when and why Baskhar did what he did to emerge as a winner. Bro how would that CBI officer know all that? How does he know that Baskhar found out about the involvement of GM Vinod and Chairman Lokhande when he read the bank statements? Did Baskhar whisper it in his ears? It completely ruins the immersion.

    10. Blatant rip-off of theme music from Loki tv series.

    11. It is unclear what the film is trying to say in the end. He is a good guy because he committed all kinds of frauds hilariously not leaving a single evidence like his obvious overwrites of vault balance in the register book, became crazy rich, arrogant, but listened to his father and wife and grew conscience when a guy died of not taking his meds? And Harshad Mehta is not? Atleast Harshad never left the country. Sorry Bhaskar, you are not (SRK's) Don to commit the perfect crime and fool the authorities at the same time.

  • Great Indian miniseries and a must watch if you liked season 1

In my opinion, 1.5 is a big step up from the Ikhlaq Khan story as it's more engaging. Writing as well as the action is surely better. I am just appalled at some of the writing choices in the last episode. Maybe it's because I just finished it but I am still trying to process how stupid it was to kil off Vijay in such a dumb way, if Himmat shooting her was the right choice considering she may have not even known who she was helping, and how Himmat replaces his friend in his friend's family. Overall, a great Indian miniseries and a must watch if you liked season 1.
