You would think with such a story the beginning would drag, and then pick up when he brings the creature to life.

    It's the opposite.

I was really enjoying it up until the creature arrives, and then it fell off a cliff for me.

It becomes silly to the point of unwatchable.

And I really didn't like what the creature looked like. So that took me out of it.

It's like they were trying to make the creature sexy. Lol

I'm writing this at 1:30 in because it's completely lost my attention, at this point.

I grade: 10-7 various levels of rewatchable 6-5 good for a one time watch 4-1 for various levels of bad

Even though the 1st half is great, I can't give it higher than a 4 for it not keeping me into it the whole time.

Sorry to those who love it. I just can't.

  • Old in every way

Movie doesn't really start until the 2nd half.

1st half is a kids show.

Brock Peters delivers the only real dramatic performance worthy of note, and he only has a brief part.

I can't see anyone watching this all of the time.

It's a 'classic' because of the subject matter.

But it's not an 'enjoyable to watch' classic like a Casablanca, or 10 Commandments, or Ben Hur.

The storytelling doesn't allow anything or any character to development.

As far as film making goes, everything about it was outdated, even for its time.

If not for the subject matter I have no doubt it would have been forgotten.

I've always liked to read and I can remember not being drawn into the book when they made us read it in school.

It's relevance has always strictly been social commentary.

But as far as movies go, there are tons of better old movies.

I have no clue why people are giving it such high marks.

  • Watchable

It's on the lower end of 'good for a one time watch' - so I'm giving it a 5.

It's weird, because all of the casting is good, until you get to Speedmen; as he sticks out like a sore thumb.

    Too young looking.

    Too pretty looking.

    Completely wrong for the role.

I don't have any clue what they were thinking.

It's not like he is a great actor.

Maybe he's related to someone? Not sure.

But the rest is better than what I was expecting, being I'd never heard of it; and it randomly started on Prime after the last show I was watching.
