  • Too long.

Another dramatization of real crime along the same lines as Mr Bates vs. The Post Office, but this wasn't as good.

I found it drawn out and quite disturbing, not really entertainment at all.

The aspects of the "double jeopardy" law was interesting but again it took a long time to get there. I know it did in reality, but the drama didn't have to be.

These dramas usually come with an accompanying documentary and I bet that would be more interesting with no need to embellish the plot for "dramatic purposes".

Although it could have been worked out by following the timeline I was shocked afterwards to see that the discovery of Julie's body was 80 days after her disappearance.

At that time in the drama a lot of the focus was on the police for failing in their duty to carry out comprehensive forensics on the house, but this was never followed up. Were the police ever held accountable for failing in their duty?

This is a drama that proves that endless profanities and/or graphic violence is not required to get across dramatic effect.

    Well done producers.

There are a lot of reviews putting too much emphasis on Sheridan Smith rather than the character she was playing. She is an actress playing a role, Ann Ming was a bereaved housewife and mother who helped change the criminal justice system.

Spoiler: Julie Hogg disappeared in 1989 and her body was found 80 days later. The killer was acquitted twice due to mistrials (the juries could not decide on a verdict) but later admitted to the murder. However, the double jeopardy law prevented a retrial that would ensure justice for Julie.

  • Definitely worth watching.

A laid-back American truck driver in south Australia suspects a man with a green van of killing young women along his route, and becomes embroiled in a game of cat-and-mouse to catch him.

From the outset this reminded me of a cross between Duel and Wolf Creek.

Stacy Keatch is good as the trucker but it was never really explained what an American was doing driving trucks across Australia.

His monologues to his pet dingo got a bit tiresome. I would have thought it would have worked better if we heard his thoughts unspoken like they were towards the end of the film.

There was some dark comedy throughout involving various people and situations but the tension didn't really work until the end as it soon became clear that the building tension fizzled into nothing. This happened on quite few occasions.

Thankfully it was a profanity free script, just one or two substitutes.

  • Awful

I wanted this to be good but I was waiting for the profanities to start up, better they never did. A big plus.

So, the first three episodes were a bit dull with not much happening and nothing really funny.

Then in episode 4 Ben Miller really started to irritate. Can he actually act or does he just rely on the same character he has done before, most notably in The Worst Week of my Life, in which his character was just a precursor to Julian Hartswood. There is even a Mel, just in case people didn't make a connection.

Then episode 5 got worse with Sally Phillip's really annoying. The episode was partially saved by 2 minutes of Billie Piper's personality at the end.

The final three episodes continued to nosedive with a really tawdry last episode.

They have already made another series, which got panned ... I won't bother.

Maybe they should have made this with an all Australian cast. I am sure it would have been better.
