Born and raised in New York. I try to keep my ratings non-bias. I rate movies based on plot, characters, dialogue, pacing, and any personal impact. I am a sucker for a good plot twist that makes sense. My all-time favorite film is The Godfather (1972).

One of the things I used to do on IMDb was to make complete and thorough Parents Guides. Since the Parental Guide format has changed in the recent years, I do not do it anymore.
Here are the ones I have done:
1. Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
2. House of Sand and Fog (2003)
3. Juno (2007)
4. The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
5. Before Midnight (2013)
6. In Bruges (2008)
7. Pi (1998)
8. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
9. Dirty Harry (1971)
10. Babel (2006)
11. The Illusionist (2006)
12. Paterson (2016)
13. The Best Offer (2013)

I used to be a big reviewer back in the day but I stopped because movies lost that magic for me. Dune sparked that flame inside of me and I got super excited for an upcoming movie. After a long wait I finally saw it with my family and my uncle who is a huge Dune fan like myself. After it finished I had a feeling inside of me that told me that this movie will hopefully ignite a whole new generation of sci-fi films. Denis Villeneuve should be extremely proud. He has faithfully adapted and extremely hard book. He made the film detailed enough to make avid fans happy and explained things enough to keep the jew comers involved and immersed. Timothée Chalamet played a great Paul and he is a very good actor. The rest of the cast knocked it out of the park as well. The visuals are stunning and the story is next to none. Please go support this film. We need to see part 2.

Short and Simple Review by WubsTheFadger

It should be noted that this film is incredibly disturbing. I am not a person that is easily scared and I am usually not impressed with horror films. This film thoroughly impressed me with the amount of quality scared and the eerie atmosphere.

The story starts off very fast and builds the tense very well. All the characters are believable and relatable in a way. The story creates a very mysterious tone but keeps a very scary feeling throughout. The plot gets extremely disturbing very quickly and keeps the disturbing imagery flowing smoothly and gracefully. The use of silence makes your stomach turn as you anticipate a scare, sometimes the scare come but other times it leaves you waiting.

The acting is extraordinary. Toni Collette delivers a stunning and frightening performance. She is truly an amazing actress. Alex Wolff and Milly Shapiro also give amazing performances. Gabriel Byrne performs very well and is my favorite character in this film.

The pacing is perfect. The first half hour of the film was scare free but the remaining runtime left me tense and scared.

This is one of the most effective horror films to date. The ending left he disturbed and I had chills running down my spine as the credits rolled. I left the theatre frightened and had that feeling of maybe I shouldn't have watched that.

    Spoiler Below

I thought the father's death was a little weak and that the plot twist that Joan was friends with the grandmother was telegraphed. Either way, the film stilled held onto its power of disturbing the mind.

    Spoiler Over

Pros: Disturbing and dark story, great use of silence, music, and the building of tension, perfect pacing, very disturbing imagery, amazing acting, Toni Collette's stunning performance, and an ending that will leave you scared and hopeless

Cons: Read the Spoiler section if you want to know the cons

    Overall Rating: 9.1

P.S. This is one of the best films of 2018. I would not recommend this film to people who are easily scared. This film only had about two jump scares but this film will leave your disturbed and wishing you hadn't watched it. If you want a less scary witch's tale, I would recommend The Witch: A New England Folk Tale

A striking directorial debut by Greta Gerwig, this tender, semi-autobiographical love letter to Gerwig's hometown explores the gulf between childhood and adulthood with touching, witty humor. Gerwig first gained acclaim for writing and acting in "mumblecore" indies; she seemed to find her own voice and persona in films like Damsels in Distress and Frances Ha. Now she brings that persona, fully formed, to the nuanced, wonderful Lady Bird. (It resembles Frances Ha, which she co-wrote, in many good ways.) And, standing in for the director on-screen, Oscar nominee Ronan perfectly adopts Gerwig's trademark sweet/scatterbrain delivery, sprinkling it with soul and humanity. The movie is more about a time, a state of mind, and an emotional place than it is a story, and Gerwig allows scenes to wander off track in a delightful way.

Even if they have nothing to do with Lady Bird, scenes sometimes follow secondary characters for no other reason than Gerwig likely found them interesting, sad, or funny. Not everything is explained. Special care is given to Lady Bird's mother, Marion, who's no-nonsense and borderline mean, but also truly loving. Metcalf gives a fine performance in the role. The overall use of music, cityscape images, and feisty rhythms round out a wonderfully personal, open-hearted movie.

The movie is an experience that should be seen. It is a great debut film and deserves some praise as a great coming of age film.
