Generator Rex, created by man of action, the same people who brought you Ben 10 and Big Hero 6 is probably their best work since the original Ben 10 series. the series feels original and for the most part is done quite well. lets start with the animation: it is spectacular. the orange pallets really gives the show the steam punk feel it needs and it works, the background design won an Emmy award and it really deserves it. the action scenes are breath taking and this show boosts the best animation quality i have ever scene on a cartoon, besides Avatar the last air bender, Young justice and the newest Voltron legendary defender. the soundtrack is also exciting and it truly suits the overall feel of the show. the plot is well rounded and the characters are interesting. Rex is also such a likable character and is not your clichéd annoying action protagonist. he has some great character development accompanied by white knight. agent six is probably the coolest side character we have ever gotten on an action series and he definitely shines during the action sequences as he takes them to a whole new level. the series might feel a little stale towards the middle, but i continued to find the show fun during the filler episodes. if you find the recent animation slot boring, vapid, cheap, and unfunny (despite the foolish attempts), then I highly recommend you revisit Generator Rex. You will not be disappointed.
Transformers generation 1 is regarded as the best transformers series by fans, it is the one that started it all, but does it really hold up to today's standards? Here is a review of huge transformers fan who grew up with transformers animated, prime and beast wars, what I regard as the best 3 transformers cartoons. Transformers generation 1 was a 20-minute toy commercial, designed solely to sell toys. Granted every transformers series is designed to sell action figures, but the way they handled g1 is absolutely disgusting. Right from the very first episode you are introduced to about 20 autobots and 20 decepticons. All you know is that they crashed on earth to continue their long, long battle. There is barely any character development ( at least according to the first 30 episodes that I watched, and god I had an awful and painfully long time). The dialogue is absolutely ridiculous, and nothing really happens, the deceptions find a source of Energon on earth, they attack, the autobots defend, and so on and so forth. The plots make no sense and some of the characters decisions make absolutely NO SENSE!!. While I love the generation 1 designs, at least the posters and the fantastic master piece figures, the animation is horrible and rushed, that's because they wanted to air as many episodes as possible to sell as many toys as they can. I swear to god, and believe me, every time I woke up at night and I could not go back to sleep, I would watch a g1 episode, and I swear to god, it WORKS, I would sleep half way through. I highly recommend it to any one NOT BORN WITH THIS CARTOON as an alternative to sleeping pills. I was very excited to see what the fuss is all about, but even my little brother absolutely despises this garbage. Watch transformers prime, beast wars, or animated. Read the IDW comics, but for any new comer, stay away from this. I know that many will dislike this review, solely because I disagree with their opinion that is blinded but nostalgia goggles, but this is awful, one of the worst transformers incarnations that are over-hyped for no objective reason.
I switched to anime lately as the latest era of western animation has been filled with short comedies that are not even funny with very cheap art styles, but this, oh my how happy I am. From the creators of avatar the last air bender and the legend of korra, I can stop the review here because you KNOW it's gonna be good, comes this reboot of a 90s action cartoon that doesn't live up to today's standards. Don't forget that I know nothing about voltron nor its mythology but now I do, yes, I care, voltron is now one of my favourite franchises. This is what a reboot should do, reintroduce a property with a fresh story telling to a new audience and I'm now into this, like many Ming others. The art is beautiful and gorgeous, combining 2d animation with great CGI sequences for voltron and the empires ships, the action sequences are breath taking mad and of high quality. The story does start slow but quickly escalates into a great climax and a cliff hanger, quite similar to avatar interns of setting structure, in which there is a mythology, planets, aliens and all sorts of fun. Don't miss on this, highly recommended.
