I don't think I've seen a movie where the acting from the leads starts off so rough (especially with Cam) and then around 15 mins in something clicks and it turns into a pretty entertaining flick.
Maybe it's an intentional trick to make the rest of the movie seem better or maybe it's because they're two experienced actors and they didn't think they'd need a warm up or something. Either way, I bet a lot of the Netflix viewers turned this off after 5 mins, before it got "good."
When it finds it's feet the movie is not bad. Yes, the premise has been done before, a few times, and done better. It's like Hollywood (I guess this is a Hollywood movie) has forgotten how to make action packed movies with heart. They are trying very hard here to capture that and succeed a little bit but not fully sadly. Maybe it's because this premise has been run into the ground.
True Lies, Mr & Mrs Smith, the one with the Hangover guy and Gal Gadot, Jason Bourne to name a few and I'm sure there are others.
It is an entertaining popcorn flick when it gets going and it looks to have a sizeable budget so the prod values and set pieces are impressive. The coupling of Diaz & Foxx is pretty engaging and different, just don't expect anything new or groundbreaking. Do expect a couple of laughs and some silly action and it's not bad.
