"Alien" is my favorite movie. What I love most, is the quiet, deep-space atmosphere, which takes place on a big ship, that's drifting through outer space. To me, the alien is fine, but it's not my favorite aspect of the story. Long ago, I fell in love with the atmosphere, of that movie.
Because "Alien" was so successful, Hollywood couldn't help but attempt to turn its success into a perpetual cash cow. This is not unlike a comedian who has a successful joke, trying to tell different versions, of that same joke, in order to get another laugh.
This is the real problem with any movie "franchise". The journey can never end well, as we're merely given different renditions of something we've seen before; all in the name of a studio attempting to make an extra buck. This movie, as well as all movies that took place, in this franchise, after "Aliens" (the second movie), is a continuation of that great joke, that stopped being funny, a long time ago.
Because of all of this, I knew this movie wouldn't amount to much. I only watched it out of curiosity.
The movie starts off great. It has all of the ingredients of an excellent sci-fi movie. Futuristic, inter-galactic space travel, and colonization of other planets, is something that I enjoy. These are concepts that cater to many avid sci-fi fans. The possibilities are endless; in terms of any story that could be told.
The problem is that, this movie is part of a cash-cow franchise. This forces it to attempt to be another continuation of a great story, that should have ended, a long time ago. Because of this, I knew that it was only going to get worse; and it did.
This is a true shame because, up until the point where the story had to take a turn, in order to continue the tired alien-franchise path, it was quite good.
Why can't we just get new stories, that take place in similar settings, that we love? I'm thinking of movies like "Pitch Black", "Settlers", and "Passengers". These are all good movies. This one could have been, too, had it not been shackled to the cash-cow agenda.
I've learned that they're working on "Alien: Romulus 2". My curiosity won't be great enough for me to continue with the charade.

This movie is a great example of a good sci-fi concept, that's held back by comedy.
I love the sci-fi genre. It's a genre that can provide thought-provoking content; especially when done right.
Comedy, on the other hand, is meant to be light and, often, mindless. So, what happens when you put the two together? You get something that, at best, could have been great. This is becaue the comedy will always prevent the audience from being able to mentally chew on a good concept, and be thoroughly intrigued by it. This is exactly what happens with this movie.
I knew nothing about "Mickey 17", before watching it. All I knew was that it's a sci-fi comedy. The poster made me curious, and I was hoping that the comedy would be at a minimum. Unfortunately, there's too much comedy for me to appreciate this film, to any real degree.
Robert Pattinson does an excellent job displaying his broad range, as an actor. This film shows that he's able to transform himself. The concept, of the moive, is also fairly unique and interesting. It's just too bad that the whole thing was made out to be a joke; due to the comedy.
So, if you're like me, and you're intrigued by sci-fi; due to the thought-provoking nature that it offers. Don't get your hopes up. This movie has a pretty good concept. However, the comedy ruins it, and will leave you thinking, "If only this idea were taken seriously".

This movie is, clearly, a grade B movie, and that's fine. We all know that directors/writers have to walk before they can run. Every great writer had to start somwhere, and a person's first attempt at writing or directing a movie, isn't likely to win any awards. However, it's downright shameful to pay for good reviews, and I can't help but think that that's what's going on here. Either the creaters, of this movie, are paying for good reviews, or the good reviews are from friends, family members, etc. Don't believe me? Just try watching the movie, and you'll understand what I mean.
This is a bad movie. I tolerated about twenty minutes before choosing to turn it off. Like I've said, it's grade B, and I wasn't in the mood to watch a grade B movie. So, I turned it off.
By far, the biggest problem, with this movie, is the writing. It's extremely amateur. It's not hard to tell, based on the dialog, as well as how unrealistic everything is; pertaining to the events that take place. It seems as if it were written by someone who's in high school. Perhaps the writer wrote it, while in high school, and then, years later, got enough money to actualy produce it. However, the source material was never critiqued and re-written, and the project was never reassessed. Otherwise, a choice probably wouldn't have been made to move forward with production.
I'm writing this review in order to provide honesty. It's what reviews are supposed to be about. I'm giving my honest review, so that moviegoers can know the truth about this film, and can assess whether or not they want to invest any time watching it.
If you're looking for a grade B movie, then this may be what you're looking for. However, if you're looking for polished entertainment --the kind of stuff that we're used to, then I don't recommend wasting your time with this movie. You'll, likely, be disappointed.
