This wasn't just a comedy show. In fact, I think the comedy was secondary to what was an introspective, artistic masterpiece of debatably unmatched proportions. Every second of this special was incredible, even when the jokes weren't - which wasn't often. I get that comedy is subjective, but this was more than comedy. Bloody brilliant!
It could have been good, and perhaps I shouldn't be leaving a review as I could not finish the film, but the main character/narrator made this unwatchable first me. The way she pronounced her S's literally hurt my ears. Like, super sharp and drawn out. It was torture. Maybe it's because of my time in radio, but you gotta watch the sharp S's, hard T's and don't pop your P's. I made it about 30 agonizing minutes before turning it off... which sucks cause they definitely had something here.
Less a comedy than an exercise of patience. I just wanted it to end. I had to watch it in three parts, as it couldn't hold my attention. It lacked the wit, charm, and innocence of the original, instead opting for horribly annoying new characters, predictable storyline, and lazy attempts at humor. Not a horrible movie by any means, but below average for sure. Eddie Murphy is funnier, and more intelligent than this film.
