Although I see why some people like the US version better, I still like the UK version better. the US version has a bigger budget and because it's not on public television they can give a big grand prize. Yes that is exciting, and in the US version they make a much bigger deal about the reunion and the final showdown. I'm guessing as The UK version picks up steam it will get more of a live audience connection, which it needs. However I found that even though the UK queens had enough cattiness, insecurity and shadiness to keep it spicy, overall they weren't as mean, backstabbing and manipulative as the US show contestants get. I honestly saw more of the sisterhood in the UK version than I see in most of the US seasons.
Thank goodness they're still making this show with Hillary and David because their spin off show isn't nearly as good. I thought they'd been replaced with younger, vapid models but thankfully not. This Toronto show works better because of the chemistry between Hillary and David. They're obviously talented and I have seen them do miracles for impossible clients and budgets. I love how they pick on each other but you can tell they care about each other. Don't feel that with the spin off. The main problem for me with the spin off is Jillian, who's very aware of the camera and playing to it, which is distracting. Don't feel any chemistry between her and Todd.
I'm a huge HGTV fan, especially Love it or List it Toronto. Hillary and David are great. They're not too plastic and fake and they feel comfortable ribbing each other. Todd is okay but Jillian is hard to watch. She's so busy flicking her hair and pouting for the camera (seriously, is she in high school?) it's really distracting. It pulls me out of the show because she's playing to the camera more than doing her job. Obviously someone who does a stint on the Bachelor franchises just wants attention. It's gotten her this show but I'm not sure she's got the goods to back up her ego. That $190k budget for one floor mentioned by another viewer is a joke. You can do a whole house for that even with contingency.
