As a longtime Tron fan I was excited about this film. (I remember watching the first movie as a kid when it came out.) The negative press had me worried, but after watching it I have to say this may be my favorite Tron film. I have no idea why it's received so much negative attention. Maybe it's Jared Leto? Maybe they could have cast someone else. I'm not sure, but in all honesty, he played a believable AI character. The movie is long, and the plot is complicated. In the age of social media where people's attention and patience are non-existent, so maybe this film takes more work to watch. This is what I look for in films, and this is the reason this film scores high in my opinion. There are a number of complex characters who are developed and/or change throughout the film. The plot itself is complex and character goals change as the film progresses. The visuals are great! The movie does a fantastic job of tying the previous films together. It uses visuals and music to do that. NIN did a great job matching the music to the previous two films as well. It doesn't directly carry on the story where the 2nd film left off, but that didn't bother me. Overall, ignore the negative reviews and see it for yourself.
This is a pretty solid flick. It's not your typical thriller, and I feel like it falls more in the vein of Fargo. If you like Fargo, I'd say you'll like this movie as well. I'm not sure why the deputy's uniform has Texas on it when the movie seems to be set in Missouri? That's the only strange thing I saw, but maybe that had something to do with the county where it's set. The acting was impressive. Ted Levine was amazing, as he always seems to be. If you like artistic cinematography, there were a lot of impressive shots. Kudos to the director and cinematographer! It's one of those films that weighs on you after you watch it. It's a bit like watching a car wreck. You know things can't end well, but you keep watching anyway.
This movie is a pleasant surprise. I was going to watch a little bit of something and get back to work on some stuff. I couldn't stop watching this movie. It's a solid film top to bottom. Acting is great, and character development is descent. Music is good. CGI, props, and animatronics were all very believable. I don't really have any complaints other than there's just not a lot of science behind it. Bikini Island doesn't have a bunch of mutant bugs to my knowledge, and to my knowledge there's no evidence that radiation could ever do this. However, in the Love and Monsters universe...totally possible. This is the way movies work. :)
Anyway, no real complaints. If you like giant monster movies, this is one of the best. Go enjoy it!
