  • Definitely got review bombed-fun episode

This episode is quite good. The plastic bit isn't as preachy as these reviews are acting. It's simply just a fact of earth that is used in the episode, which makes complete sense. The framing of the episode starting outside of the Tardis actually works (when usually I find that aspect of Chibnall's run annoying AF). The common complaint I see about the companions not serving a real purpose can't be said to apply here. There are even more additional characters involved that all works well together. The episode's concept is great!

For those who are complaining about how this should be escapism and how they don't want to see social issues in the show and whatever crap they're spewing-first, sci-fi has ALWAYS been about pushing a concept in society to the extreme. It's actually rarely about escapism. It's about pushing our conception of our world. There is, of course, bubble-gum sci-fi fare that has its own place, but the genre itself isn't escapist. Look at some of the originators of the genre! This episode does that in a way that is really interesting.

The episode also includes a gay couple, so I'm not surprised it got targeted so heavily for review-bombing.

  • Interesting Concept

People are mad that it shows the realities of a black man being in Alabama. They couldn't pretend that wouldn't be an issue in the time period.

Honestly, the concept of the episode to protect a pivotal moment in history, which they've done before and fits the show. This time it's just a moment that is real, rather than a moment in humanity's future.

My only real issue is that this episode ignores the actual history that this was not spontaneous and was intentional. Parks was also not the first or only person to refuse to give up her seat. Teenager Claudette Colman did the same weeks before. Parks was seen as someone who could be the face of the movement, though, because of her age and respectability. They didn't want it to seem as intentional at the time but ignoring that historical fact now just removes the agency, intelligence, and perseverance of the black community.
