I don't have any nostalgic ties to the movie and Karate Kid game out before I was born, and I just never got around to watching it. The only reason I had ever heard of it was through "How I Met Your Mother" and how Barney always despised Lerusso and always boasted that Johnny was the real hero.
With that information provided, I saw Cobra Kai trending on Netflix, and decided to read the reviews on IMDB before I decided to commit. My dad sat with me to watch it and he automatically went down memory lane. Apparently he's seen Karate Kid numerous times (6 times to be exact)
We were both instantly hooked right away. It's cheesy at times, don't get me wrong, but it's very enjoyable. I enjoy the character development and its storyline. As somebody who's never seen the original, I really appreciate that it includes clips from the film as it provides context for the story lines for those who haven't seen the film i.e. me.
So if you're intimidated or turned off because you haven't seen the original movie, don't be. I think it's a fantastic series with great actors and each episode moves at a great pace.

I'm a huge-huge Bill Burr fan so I was immediately drawn to this movie. Bill Burr shines, - but so does the rest of the cast. I enjoyed this film from beginning to end. It's raw, comedic, and weird at times but at all times entertaining. Personally I think it's a great film. This is the type of Judd Apatow content I love and appreciate. Plus I watched this with my uptight parents and younger brother and we all really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the score to the movie as well.

Honestly this was a movie I was never really planning to see. I thought it was another cash grab at our nostalgia. But when the initial trailer came out with the original sonic, I partook in the hilarious and frightening memes and joined in on the criticism. When I found out that they were redesigning Sonic due to the backlash - I was shocked. I never thought a studio would listen to our voice, and oh was our voice heard.
So after I saw the second trailer I thought to myself, well, I guess I gotta go see it now. "Put your money where your mouth is." If the studio took the time to do this for us then I will gladly pay my money to see this.
And I'm glad I did. It's a fun movie. It's not perfect by any means, but it's an enjoyable film for the family. I love the new Sonic, I love the cast, Jim Carrey is spectacular as always. It was a fun movie from start to finish. And it was really entertaining. I love the voice character for Sonic too, I think he fit perfectly. I would've given it a 7/10 but like I mentioned before, an extra star for caring about the fans and the audience.
