Waltz...this is the season, just in time for Halloween. A bit of a different take on the classical horror genre. Writer/Director/Producer, Joshua D. Maley begins with what appears to be a woman navigating life in a straightforward manner. There are minor little clues about choices she's made, but nothing to prepare for what's in store. This is horror one won't forget and not for the feint of heart.
It's obvious this film is a labor of love from filmmaker Matthew Michael Ross due to the care he's taken in crafting this tale. The title, INVISIBLE, refers to the heartbreaking struggle with substance abuse, mental challenges and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). It is a wild ride as we follow the protagonist searching for his friend, David, whose life has been destroyed by substance abuse. The interesting cast of characters and the journey keep us guessing and involved to the end. Beautifully cinematic with interesting shots and visually appealing locations from the beaches to the well-dressed interiors.
What a great and clever take on a really troubling and unbelievable time. A bit awkward at the beginning, and seemingly going in a whole different direction, we were in for a lot of surprises, twists and turns and quite humorous situations. The two leads worked well together and took us on a sometimes hilarious ride. The film did a great job of showing the unfairness and desperation so many people dealt with during the early days of Covid while presenting a very entertaining film. Well worth watching. I found it thought-provoking as well as a very satisfying and interesting viewing experience.
