  • The Best if the Maigrets

I know that I may be opening myself up to some fierce criticism but I absolutely am mezmerized by Bruno Cremer's portrayal of French detective, Maigret.

His subtlety makes me wonder what he is up to and then Bam!!! He'll open up into a fit of rage at a fellow detective or criminal. I love watching him smile and wish that he would give a more emotional reaction when he is pleased.

I missed the interaction with his wife about half way through the series. They were very 'human' snipets' of a very well protected set of emotions. Anyhow, as a couple they were cute!

I am on my third run through the series, consecutively. No gaps, just straight from the last episode to episode one!

I saw sad to find out that he had passed in 2010. For me a great actor portraying one of the greats in mystery/suspense.

  • Waiting for Season Four!

Sub titles have never bothered me so there was nothing stopping me from pursuing this series to its' current, and hopefully, temporary conclusion. The main character is witty, intelligent, charming and at times can be a bit jarring but his relationships with others are unique, complex, intriguing and charming. His evolution from being a victim from his wife's murder to his supposed liberation is a challenging if not a painful one. The supporting cast is also quite special. Captain Bach, the police detective who tries her best to be professional and serious is no match for Balthazars charm and wit. His forensic assistants are entertaining with their love/hate relationship and the popping in and out of his dead wife is an endearing and sometimes pleasant appearance. I hope that a fourth and even a fifth season are added.

  • Penny Dreadful Overall

I started in season two and was immediately hooked by the series. At first I must admit that I thought the choice of horror movie characters was a bit odd, but I soon got over that aspect of the series. Then after two more episodes, their historic horror resumes just disappeared and they took on unique characters of their own. The writing was great and the development of each character was very interesting to watch week to week. The only negative aspect that I have to the series is the ending episode. It seems that no one is able to creatively wrap up a three year run with unique and spellbinding twists and turns. It's as if they just looked at each other and said...OK he bit her, she's doomed, we can't have a dark world so she's gotta die. What the hell was that? I do recall that after every single episode I wanted more. I was just so charged and excited that the next seven days were rough. Eva Green was outstanding. Just outstanding. They all were. If they can bring Bobby Ewing back from the dead then why not Eva's character. Oh, and yeah....what the hell ever did happen to Dracula?
