I absolutely loved this movie! It is filled with grace, and hope, and is totally uplifting. I love how everything in the movie points to God as the ultimate Source of everything. I love the way the movie stresses prayer especially impressing upon the viewer that when we pray, sincerely, God is pleased. I have read some of the negative reviews about the acting and feel those reviewers missed the point. This is a movie about faith and hope, and yes, this is a Christian movie. If you want to watch a movie that will touch your soul, this will do it.

Just as the title implies, this movie is a faith based movie about an old wooden box that the main character calls, "the messenger's box". The main character, Jake Casper, is a typical teenage boy who gains possession of a wooden box he finds in his recently deceased grandfather's shop. He becomes intrigued by the box when he discovers it contains some kind of power and carries it with him everywhere he goes. Strange things happen when he opens the box, and Jake questions the origins of the box itself. Jake is the object of a bully, and this bully plays an important part in the story line. The Messenger's Box" contains elements of friendship, bullying, boy meets girl, and mild violence involved with the bullying. As an adult, I found this movie very enjoyable and would recommend it as a movie that could be used for family night. I think that I would not show it to a child younger than 10-12 because of the mild violence in the bullying element. For adults, there are enough adult characters in the movie as well who play more minor roles.

While the main character, Grace, is a Down syndrome person, this movie is not about Down syndrome for there is a lot of bullying of others as well, not only Grace. This movie deals with bullying, and the length teens will go to in order to be accepted by the popular crowd, as well as forgiveness. Down syndrome is not the main issue in the movie by any means, although it is discussed at one point. I found this movie to be touching, yet frustrating at times as I watched the main bully. I think this movie would be great for parents and teens to watch together. It would make a great opener for parents to discuss these things - peer pressure, acceptance, bullying, forgiveness, accepting people who are different. Touched by Grace held my attention, made me smile, and made me laugh. This movie also reminded me how precious all life is and reminded me of the Down syndrome people I have known who so freely gave their love.
