The film draws you in with its authenticity. The forest setting feels real, not staged, and that makes the horror even more suffocating. Nirmal Baby Varghese captures the anxiety of being lost in the unknown and amplifies it into something raw and nightmarish.
The shaky camera, the eerie silences, the sudden bursts of chaos... everything adds up to an experience that feels like recovered footage you weren't meant to see.

Moppala, directed by Santhosh Puthukkunnu, is a searing cultural drama that interrogates the intersections of caste, legacy, and identity in Kerala. The story follows Devanandan, a boy passionate about Theyyam but excluded from performing it due to his inter-caste lineage. The film portrays the emotional turmoil of both Devanandan and his grandfather, Ambhu Panickar (played with subtle brilliance by Santhosh Keezhattoor), who struggles to uphold tradition while watching his grandson suffer. Puthukkunnu's direction is restrained yet powerful, with each frame steeped in meaning. The final shot, where Devanandan silently walks away adorned in Theyyam attire, is an image of defiance and liberation. Moppala is not just a story; it's a mirror reflecting uncomfortable truths.
Very nice family picture. The relationship between father and daughter is beautifully portrayed. Indran's acting skills are what should be mentioned in this film. And all of Unni Raja's comedy scenes were very good with everyone playing their roles beautifully. The film can be watched till the end without getting tired. It's been a long time since I watched a complete feel good movie like this. It is definitely a movie that everyone should watch with their families. The emotions between father and daughter have been portrayed very well by the director Santhosh Puthukunnu in the film. Kasaragod locations and dialogues in the film are another feature worth mentioning.
