I came across this by accident and I'm glad I did. To me its a SciFi similar to DC's Legends Of Tomorrow with a bit darker theme. It's rated TV-MA perhaps for its implied content but I would say its more like TV-14 because they never actually show or say anything over the top; but it is implied in clever speech or the camera shifts right before the murder/gore ( && a lot of sexual innuendoes ).
There is an overall story being told and they drop random bits here and there to be used in later episode (and not the immediate next one). Each episode carries its own little plot that gives a sense of closure.
Not a lot of special effects but the do introduce some here and there and interesting weapons and gadgets.
Overall, its a good casual SciFi show.

I put this aside as a I'll watch it when season 2 rolls around (that never happened). Eventually I forgot about it. Randomly choosing something I started watching it and was really surprised. I initially thought it was a Crime show; as I watched it I would say it as Dramedy. Seeing it listed as Action I would say it is...
30% Drama + 30% Action + 40% Clever Comedy
All the parts work well the acting, scenes & writing. The timing of the first 6 or 7 episodes was off; the writing is very clever and easy to digest but it was fast paced like a Comedy. In the mean time the Drama & Action were paced for easy watch of a decently written story.
The last half of 6 or 7 shows all the pieces begin to fall in place the humor falls in place and random twists keep the Drama interesting. As others have mentioned the show grows on you and the character development is well done.
It isn't a must watch but an enjoyable pleasant watch that is well written and doesn't require deep thought. Should have been given another season at least, all the major parts were good.

The show started as a fresh witty Drama/Comedy (now would be called Dramedy). The 1st 2.5 seasons were exciting and had a new way to interact with the viewer in a rhetorical format that regularly broke the 4th Wall with direct intention.
When it 1st aired in the 3rd season episodes were constantly delayed (filled with reruns). It was so bad the writers started poking fun at the issue, funny at first but annoying as it went along (in rerun it extra annoying).
The biggest draw was the anticipation of David & Maddy getting together. Eventually it happens but if you blink you might miss the 2 episodes before it implodes.
Romantically the last 2.5 years was sparked by Agnes & Herbert, it was a cute side story but highlighted the bigger of the 2 main characters no longer being a viable Happy Ending Couple.
Yes, Cybill having a baby and there being a Writers strike in 1988 may have cause some hiccups but not the degree that it tanked to and the horrible plots and story lines arrrrrgh !. The 1st 2.5 years 9/10 the next 2.5 years 3/4.
