The novel of the same name was a hit, and there was a movie done based on it in 1990 starring Harrison Ford - so there is no doubt that the basis of this show is solid.
The acting is very good also especially the performances of Bill Camp, Ruth Negga, and O-T Fagbenle.
But why do you have to mess with the ending? The novel was great, do you think you can do better? Do you think you can be "edgy"? Then come up with your own original material rather than ruining others'. Call it "Disassociate".
To anyone who already watched this trite show, knowing how it ends, can you rewatch the opening scene and with a straight face tell me the writing is nothing but ridiculous?
To anyone who did not watch the show; don't waste your time. Read the book or watch the movie instead. Or better yet, watch "Adolescence" - that's an original thriller worth your time.
JJ Abrahams has a knack for ruining anything he touches. Changed the premise of the novel from an interesting psychological thriller to a lame, boring, slow-paced drama about the concept of "disassociation". Please retire, you've done enough already.

Boyle and Garland are seasoned veterans, they know how to make good movies, and adapt their styles with the times. The original was a bombastic and action filled because this is how films were made 27 years ago.
This new sequel is more thoughtful, more realistic, and subtle in conveying the emotions - which makes it better. Even the satire (like the Brexit metaphor and the funny mainland soldier) were on spot. The story was layered. It's a human story, with a bunch of loose zombies that you need to deal with sporadically - they are not the main attraction. There are a few unexpected twists and turns (like the original), and they treated their audiences as adults - alas, many are indeed childish.
The only problem with the movie is that it is rated as 15, which means a lot of teenagers, looking for a cheap mindless zombie action thriller were allowed to watch it, and many no doubt reviewed it here - hence the low IMDB rating.
E.g. Some guy wrote: "There were certainly flashes of what made the original films so memorable - a few tense, edge-of-your-seat moments and some solid action sequences." Is that what made the originals so memorable. Oh, my poor lad!

I am a huge fan of the original series. In fact, I've watched all episodes at least 3 times - good ones more like 10 times, and really good ones; 20.
The new show is getting better. Sure, the writing is not as good, and the acting (especially the younger characters) leaves a lot to be desired, but the latest season 2 is actually decent.
There are a few times when the writing impressed me, with funny and unexpected plot twists. There are a couple of "laugh-out-loud" moments in each episode. They are still building the characters and I think it will only get better.
Will it be as good as the original? Doubtful. But it is a good show compared to everything else that's out there.
I give it 7.5 stars.
