...doing the same thing repeatedly and thinking the outcome will be different.
So, the thing that divided gamers 5 years ago has happened in the TV adaptation, and people are not happy; the same divisions will beset the reviews on this and other platforms.
Thoughts on S02: * Pros: Very high production values. It looks fantastic.
At least the actress playing Abby isn't built like a brick ****-house (I could never work out how someone could maintain that amount of muscle in a post-apocalyptic world without access to steroids and HGH!) * Con: I cannot see how Bella Ramsay can carry the remaining episodes, due to her character being written as a spoiled brat, and she does not have the charisma of Pedro (sorry, Bella!).
Episode 3 is make or break for me.
"That's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for them."

Why did the showrunners do it?
S01 set up S02 so well, but S02 was a completely different show.
All the major characters' swapped traits: the weak became strong and knowledgable and the strong became weak and unknowing.
It was jarring to watch... and so predictable with hindsight. A "current day" bait and switch. Why didn't I see this coming? I feel such a fool and I want the time I invested in this show back!!!
I really liked S01. Jeff plays the highly resourceful Dan Chase, drawing on his vast experience as a covert operative to overcome younger, faster, and stronger foes. John Lithgow plays the resourceful Harold, who, like Dan, can draw upon his years of "alphabet-agency" experience to call on contacts and pull strings to get things done.
Between them you just knew Dan and Harold could overcome any dire situation.
Alia Shawkat and Amy Brenneman, playing Angela Adams and Zoe McDonald, respectively, round out S01's characters. They are both on a journey, both a little bit out of their depth and trying to make sense of the situation that unfolds in season one.
So far so good. I was looking forward to season two...
Then, S02 happens. Dan and Harold are now out of their depth, unsure of "the story" they are in.
Having to be rescued by the other two characters from S01: Zoe now has hidden depths for counter-intelligence, and Angela, well she turns out to be the "girl who is the key to everything"! Those first 3 episodes of S02, that is 90% exposition about Angela's backstory, in subtitles, really, really dragged for me.
All the men turn into shadows of their former selves, being told important plot points and "how things are" by stronger female characters, apart from Gbenga Akinnagbe's assassin, Julian, of course.
Harold's mouth is permanently open, as plot revelation upon revelation is told to him in excruciating exposition by one of the strong female characters. His poor male brain simply can't cope.
Dan is put out of action way to easily this season, and constantly requires medical attention or saving.
I won't be watching S03, and from reading the comments, I don't think many others will be either.
If only they could have stuck to S01's formula this show could have had a strong run.
