Descriptions, summaries, and other reviews are available here and elsewhere -- no spoilers are included in this review -- but I'll say this is a "Hallmark-ish" movie, and that is not a bad thing to my wife and I. My wife picked this to watch, and we both liked it!! If you've watched more than two or three actual Hallmark movies, you're likely gonna be able to predict the ending of this one. However, that's ok -- this had some unexpected parts, and a lot of sweet parts, and the two main characters had some good personal growth as individuals. (Oh, and we really liked Josh's Grandma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Be sure to keep watching at the credits start rolling, so you don't miss the "mid-credit" scene! :-)
The scenery is the absolute best part of this movie, but the story, dialogue, acting, etc. Were all good, too. I don't know what "some" people were expecting, but some of the reviews here are akin to "some" people eating ice cream and then complaining the ice cream was too cold and too sweet. Seriously, this was a pretty good example of what it was meant to be: a "Hallmark" kind of movie with an "Irish Wish" and romance and sweetness and Irish landscapes in the background and a lesson learned and the main character (Lindsay Lohan) learning some things about herself and a great "happy ending" that should've been expected. It was a nice way to spend part of the evening for my wife & I. :-)
I watched this with my wife, and we loved the scenery. We honeymooned in the Smokes many years ago, and have been back since, and loved those mountains and waterfalls.
Sadly, this movie was poorly written, poorly acted, and poorly set up in so many of its actions that we very nearly turned off the movie several times -- but the Smokies kept us watching.
The way the female lead "hiked" in those mountains was dangerous and foolhardy, and the "in cave" portion of the final part was sooooo non-professionally-done for a PhD "archaeologist" that it completely broke the scene.
We didn't come to care about the leads, didn't "feel" any chemistry between them -- see "poorly acted" above -- and she accepted him waaaaay too quickly and easily.
All in all, I think the 4 stars might be an overly positive rating. (sigh) This was an exceptionally poor movie -- not quite terrible (mostly because of the great scenery, actually in the Smokies!) -- but definitely below average.
We still love the Smokies.
