So if you've never seen the Broadway play I can see how you rate this a 2, and think it is the weirdest movie you've ever seen, because it is. BUT, if you've seen the play the movie is true to it (besides a few small things that I felt actually added to it and clarified the story). While at first the costuming felt a little weird, after 15 minutes you adjust and enjoy. The characters were represented well and in such fun ways in this movie. My daughter was obsessed with Cats (the play) as a tiny child, and watching the movie just brought back all the feels for us. Jennifer Hudson was incredible.
I miss the days when Disney would focus on a few films at a time and they were all incredible, instead of producing them left and right and coming out with silly, sub par films, with bad acting.
This didn't keep any of my family entertained- from an 80 year old to a 9 year old and everything in between. It was also more violent then it needed to be. Instead of playful, joyful and magical, it felt heavy, dark, and confusing.
The only redeeming quality was the concept of the backstory of Peter and Hook.
We won't watch again, in fact, I'll second guess watching another new movie on Disney+ and stick to what they release in theatres.
