Despite a smattering of usually half decent actors, this series is absolutely dreadful and my advice is don't waste your time! It was badly acted, the script was so bad it was quite a shock to think it had ever been commissioned, and I can only imagine the whole cast are embarrassed by this blot on their copybook! Unbelievable, illogical, irrational, utter nonsense, and I can't think of any more adjectives which could sum up just how absolutely terrible this series is. How I got through 6 episodes is completely down to a sleepless night, the least I can do is issue a health warning to anyone considering watching it!
Just superb in every aspect. The entire cast is exceptional but Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis are both so excellent. Loved the books and this version really does bring Mantel's writing to life. I've heard some critics say otherwise but the mise en scene, locations, script etc etc are all so brilliant it does make you wonder why we can't have this quality more often. Intelligent, witty, moving and compelling. Wish there were many more programmes like this one. A true visual description of Mantel's writing you feel as if you are in the room. Would highly recommend whether you are interested in this period of history or not, really doesn't matter.
