Yes. Dementia, aging, caregiver-related stress, family skeletons/wounds, lifestyle differences are all REAL and I validate that.
But this film was like a dark pall, and the old dad SO over-the-top miserable and vulgar that anything redemptive that came was but a drip of hope in an ocean of doom. And yes, doom is real, too. I just don't need to see it with such full-frontal oomph as this film. And yes, sometimes there is NO earthly redemption in real life. I get it.
I give the son (Viggo) 5 stars for his patience with his dad. And his little daughter's love for the old guy (her grandpa) was heartwarming and okay, yes, that was redemptive. But this film may not be something you (or rather, I) might want to watch at the end of a long and hard day.
