The actor chemistry was excellent. The acting itself was pretty good. The directing was good. The cinematography was good. The writing was so-so. The only real problem I had with this movie was the initial reactions of the characters to the situations, it's passable enough as some teenagers being reckless, but still not the believable. Other than that everything worked pretty well. I do have some open ended questions for how it ends, but still, it's fine enough. I give it a 7 for being entertaining enough. I think the director knocked it out of the park, and the writer needed another draft for a slight bit more believability from the characters.
That was pretty much the only takeaway I got from this movie. All the men are either stupid, fat, effeminate, perverted, or a combination of any of these. All the women are the brains of the film. Religion is the catalyst for why all the characters suck. Besides being repeatedly beat over the head by these tropes there's a story of a little girl that attempts to make a few kills based off of living in this atmosphere. Boring plot point after boring plot point eventually leads to the end of an unfulfilling story. I've no idea why this movie was recommended to me. Skip it if you can, it's not worth the time wasted. Just a relic of the women's rights movement, or something.
I don't know why this movie is rated so low. It's not great but it is entertaining. It feels like a 90's episode of The Lost World, but in a good way. Every ten minutes a new plot twist is implemented, and the action is fun. Cheesy, but fun. I can point out its flaws such as the cardboard acting, forgettable stereotypical characters, low budget sets, etc., but it all adds to the entertainment value. If you like conspiracy theories, movie making, and/or 90's style adventure this movie is for you. And, as others have surely harped on, the stop motion is great. It feels slow-mo in places, but it's something that can be overlooked. I enjoyed this movie.
