I'm not sure why others liked this film. For me it was unbelievable that there would be chemistry between the two couples. Cameron Diaz plays a shallow LA Barbie type who meets a sophisticated English type, Jude but they want us to believe they fall instantly in love. The other story has Kate Winslet and Jack Black falling in love which is equally unbelievable. In fact the character Jack plays doesn't seem real. We didn't even finish this poor offering from tinsel town. The writers threw in a part about the older screen writer who was Kate's neighbor and that part was a tad interesting but once again too cliched, too Hollywood.
I really enjoyed watching this series. On the one hand it's a drama but it also has moments of comedy and lots of humanity as well. And the story it's based on is fascinating as well. There are multiple stories about the different characters entwined and the characters are mostly likeable and relatable. The acting is pretty good. I watch a lot of Spanish movies and series to practice my Spanish and this is one that I really enjoyed. I think the script writers did a good job of taking the original story and turning it into a series that kept your attention until the end. I recommend it but your mileage may vary.
