I'm not minded by good-natured fun about religion or race etc but this episode went too far.. they clearly went out of their way to disparage Christianity and belittle Jesus Christ our Savior. By creating a character\priest who cares less about another person's salvation then even puddy is such a shocking betrayal.. eternity is a daunting idea for human beings since we are all finite, not infinite like our Creator and to belittle and trivialize the fact of hell being eternal torment is inexcusable. Imagine if they did something like that with Islam.. But, to undermine the basic tenets of Christianity by glorifying self-professed so-called believers who flagrantly ignore the commands of Jesus to love others and share the truth of the Gospel!. It's horrific.

I had no idea .. This movie came out in 1994 ..never saw up until now and I'm grateful I never did see it because the sheer charm and glorious beauty of Italy was so well presented that one is compelled to, with casual disregard for responsibility or schedule or prior commitment.. just as the characters in the movie, book a trip and just go .. to cruise the glorious sea-side-twisty-two-lane in a red Ferrari driven by the most gracious host\stranger you'll ever meet..alas, there's no Giovanni for most of us.
But, just to take in, intimately, the ridiculously romantic Italian culture and the amazing, ancient, architecture everywhere ..truly is a sight to behold. Something you will not find anywhere in our vast, gorgeous United States.
There's so much to like about this adorable story, notwithstanding the beauty of the Italian countryside and seaside, but the astounding casting.. perfect really. Could Marissa Tomei be any more adorable? And Bonnie Hunt ..always the flawed, but kind and supportive sister. We know where they got the idea to cast her next to Renee in Jerry Maguire, now, don't we?
How about Good Old RDJ? This guy has a singular talent for clever witnessisms and a snarky attitude that he always seems to get away with.. every character he plays has the same hint of sarcastic, narcissist, but.. in the end he just could not help himself and fell into the same romantic interlude as Faith.
Honestly, it could have been trimmed down.. a little long with unnecessary character development.. it's all right Norman, we get it. She's a helpless romantic and with the impetuousness of a child and the "stars" lead the way.. the ridiculousness of that notion aside it's fun to watch the main characters find themselves and the suspense was palpable.
Such a shame they had to taint it with some needless and inappropriate use of Jesus and Christ.
All in all 2 hours of mostly harmless fun, so, take this movie in for the scenery and the lovely performances and the fun tricks at the end... oh, btw, plan to book your next flight to the most convenient, cheapest city in Italy... you know it's going to happen! 😊

Timeless and genuine ..harkens back to an era when comedy was sometimes physical, sometimes cute but always clever! ..how unique this was! For someone to think of something like this today and put it together it still wouldn't be as funny. Another terrific aspect of watching our gang shorts is to get a real feel for life back in the twenties and thirties... the cultural differences ..the technology of the day, such as it was, just the way people lived ..fascinating.
And that hysterical laugh the donkey had!
I mean who would name an animal algebra? It doesn't mean anything but it's fun to say and it's cute, if not appropriate and it's stuck with me all these years later. I remember as a kid it used to make me laugh. I saw it probably 40 years ago for the first time and YouTube's been uploading them and boy they sure has been a lot of fun.
