Prabhas looks absolutely ugly in the movie which is very distracting even if I try to enjoy this movie as a movie for children. Lots of CGI has been used just to make him look young and fit. Ravan and his brothers look younger than Lord Ram which is stupid. These Rakshasas were conquering world even before Lord Ram was born. It seems like our revered God's character was butchered for the sake of a lazy superstar who has accidentally hit on the box office draw.
Movie is bad. The vision and the portrayal of characters which we have seen since childhood doesn't fit here. Even though I am all for allowing multiple interpretation, here it doesn't come well.

Whoever did the soundtrack of the movie should go to a back doctor because he carried the whole movie.
Others did a very bad job. First of all lets come to what this movie was marketed as, modern story with mythological elements. If you know even a slight bit about Hindu mythology, then you should ignore this movie. They have just used it as marketing gimmick. Just use the word astra and Bingo! Now it is part of Hindu pantheon. I wish the script writers had just used google to know more about Hinduism but nope. It is a generic story where everyone has generic powers like summoning an animal figure, elemental powers or lightsaber. Just added the word astra at the end of different words.
Second, writing sucks. Lead pair share a nibba nibbi relationship and will die for each other after knowing each other for one day. Lots of tropes used and they are stitched together to make a plot. The climax has biggest cliche which we even make fun of in memes(power of love defeats everyone!) There is hardly and depth to characters and they are there for the sake of being there. Not even once you feel for them.
Dialogues are weird and it feels even the actors knew. Take some Hindi classes for God's sake. 'Shiva! Light aagyi' is a legit dialogue in the movie.
Third, lead pair aren't fit for the role. Though SRK, Nagarjun and Big B has done great job and are saving grace of movie.
Now that the movie is hit because of the VFX show, I doubt they will care to take any of the constructive criticism but ig audience deserves this for making a mediocre movie Hit.

Unlike other Great dynasties in Indian History, there is great deal of written sources about Mughals to make a Historical accurate movie but alas it is too much to ask from Bollywood
AR Rahman's music and Hritik's acting were great.
