Better than GHOST WORLD, even better than AMERICAN SPLENDOR - Owen Kline's FUNNY PAGES is thee ultimate comics-obsessed outsider comedy. While it survives alone off its endless tapestry of MAD / Archie / Underground / Alt comix adoration (not to mention everything else from Joe Franklin to Norton Records) - the heart of FUNNY PAGES is its dedication to the awkward and immersive tale of its protagonist finding a hero in the most unlikely of places - even if that hero isn't interested.
You can find this on the THE CONCERT FOR NEW YORK 2 DVD set. Allen's concept for how to contribute to the event is great, in essence it's his trademark brand of random one-liners once used to pepper throughout his stand up morphed into a rapid-fire riff on what might be overheard walking the streets of NYC.

I randomly picked this one up because I figured a movie with a supernatural angle starring Duchovny and Taylor would be interesting - But this thing is a total knockout. A beautiful, bizarre, funny and sad story that pulls no punches and had me completely hooked. Do this as a double feature with another Duchovny curio THE RAPTURE.
