  • The intermission was too long

The conclusion was not QUITE as fun as the first part, but it was still undeniably well done.

Cynthia Erivo got another big musical number with 'No Good Deed' that was worth the price of admission. And the other songs were good too. But because of the format and because alot of the songs and the scenes are callbacks to the first part, it seemed more like the second half of one really long movie...I'm dating myself, but it reminded me of movies like Titanic that first came out on 2 vhs tapes. It felt more like the 2nd tape than a whole other movie.

Both parts were filmed at the same time so this movie should have come out in March or by summer at the latest. Waiting a year was too long. They did over a year of QUALITY marketing before the first one and because they waited so long to release For Good, the momentum died a bit, which is unfortunate because it was a good movie. I've never seen the play so I didn't know how it would end, but I was very pleased with the ending. The acting was just as good, the pacing was good, but I feel like there should be a Director's cut where this is just all one movie.

It was good, but it wasn't quite 'I waited a year for this' good.

  • Yuck.

I wanted to walk out, but since I bought an IMAX ticket I stayed until the end.

It wasn't good. It wasn't memorable. And it definitely wasn't worth seeing in IMAX.

The acting, from literally everybody, was either over the top or under the bottom. Every single character was unlikable, stupid, and/or vapid to the point where you didn't care about them at all.

Of course in a movie like this there was some modern political commentary, but the writing overall was lazy, almost camp, and it was painfully obvious in every line delivered by the black people in this movie that the writers were 2 white guys...most of those AAVE attempts were really cringe, borderline offensive.

I'm not a fan of Glen Powell. I don't really dislike him but I don't seek out his work and my indifference toward him wasn't helped at all by his role in this film. I genuinely don't understand the hype. He's a mediocre looking, physically fit white guy who can cry on camera which is a combination as rare in Hollywood as a paper cup in a coffee shop. I first saw him in Set it Up on netflix and I thought he was good. But then.....sigh. He seems to suffer from The Rock syndrome (basically playing the same person in every movie with mild, practically imperceptible differences in each character) as his career progresses, I am willing to be wrong, but I haven't seen anything recently to change my opinion.

Despite my disappreciation for the main character, having seen the original and after watching the trailer, I went into this hoping for the best. I was expecting alot of action and this kind of fresh, Free Guy meets Guns Akimbo mashup type situation that would justify a remake. Alas, disappointment abounds.

The best parts of this movie were in the trailer. And I will stress that the best parts of THIS movie were still garbage.

  • It was what it was

Pretty much exactly what I expected.

It was a weird movie made by a guy who makes weird movies just for the sake of being weird and 2 actors (Plemons and Stone) who love taking on odd roles. I'm sure a room full of film school graduates could decode some deep political or environmental message, but for the average moviegoer it was just a strange little film.

The acting was good and the story was fascinating, but right when things were really getting interesting the movie took a hard left into ridiculousness when it could have just kept straight.

    I didn't like the ending. You might. I didn't.

There were other, less absurd ways to get to the final montage.

I'm sure this film will get nominated for some awards because the acting was good enough to keep you engaged and the plot was just random enough to be divisive...that seems to be the bar these days.

But I don't need to see it again.
