  • Interior Cafe Night

The title of this film itself is the one and only scene in this film. It's a film which depicts love, sadness and reconciliation in a very subtle way. The film has two heroes one is Naseeruddin Shah and the other is Naveen Kasturia. It starts of with Shah meeting Shernaz Patel, her past love. On the other hand there's Naveen Kasturia with his girlfriend. The rest is something that you will find out after watching the film. All four of them act brilliantly. Direction by Adhiraj Bose is excellent. He handles this romantic drama in a very delicate manner.

I'm going with four out of five for Interior Cafe Night. Hope you give at least 13 minutes for this wonderful piece of art.

  • Life's a Spectacle!

Tamasha begins with a stage play wherein Ranbir acts as a robot. The play there seemed to be completely illogical at that point of time, but as the same play was repeated at the end we clearly understand it. Ranbir Kapoor, the hero, plays Ved Sahni, he is cool, good looking and dramatic. He lends his phone to Tara played by Deepika Padukone who wants to make an urgent call. That's the way they meet. Tara is gorgeous and attractive. She totally gets engaged with him in Corsica.

They decide that they won't let their relationship be the usual one; for this reason they don't even tell their real names to each other. The first half is funny and entertaining. It amuses you the way Deepika gets amused by Ranbir. She kinda falls for Ved because of his witty and cool nature. The song shot in Corsica titled 'Matargashti' completely illustrates Ved's madness and dramatic behavior.

Imtiaz Ali makes another masterpiece after his first major break, Jab We Met. But Tamasha doesn't cater to almost all sorts of the audience, there may be many of them who might feel that this film doesn't create any sort of magic in their minds or hearts but frankly speaking the film itself is a magic created by the magician named Imitiaz Ali. His direction is accomplished and proficient. The screenplay is non- linear, it shows Ved on three different stages of his life i.e childhood, boyhood, and the matured one. Ranbir plays Ved as a young one and a matured one. The screenplay is fast, funny, appealing, and emotional in the second half.

Ranbir is excellent as Ved. At some point of time we find Ved being inane. He makes you think that he requires a psychologist for his immature behavior. Later things get revealed and we see the reasons behind this and at least one thing is proved that our hero is not a psycho. Deepika also plays her role well. Tara loves Ved, she loves almost everything in Ved. In the second half things take a tragic turn in her life. Things aren't in the right place.

Tamasha is all about finding who you are. Being yourself, living yourself. It's not good to compulsorily establish yourself as 'mediocre' or 'average'. It's about running in such a race in which you will come first rather than running in a rat race and landing almost nowhere.

  • Sweet as Sugar!

Finally Ashwiny directs her second film, an adaption of the French novel, "The Ingredients of Love" by Nicolas Barreau. The film starts and ends with Javed Akhtar's voice over. He narrates the movie. It stars my favorites Rajkumar and Ayushmann. Rajkumar plays the mild-mannered Pritam Vidrohi who is stuck in a problem whose creator is none other than Ayushmann who plays the dude, Chirag Dubey. There's Kriti, the heroine who plays Bitti; she is independent and cool. She smokes, watches Hollywood films and translates in her own way to her friends. Bitti was someone who wasn't like the other girls staying in Bareilly. Rajkumar portrays two shades in this film, one being shy and kinda introvert and the other being a bad-ass.

Writers Nitesh Tiwari, Shreyas Jain and Rajat Nonia have written the screenplay beautifully and in a very effective manner. The screenplay is precise, quick, funny and not to forget romantic. Ashwiny has proved that a director can make a film better than his/her debut although their first turns out to become a success. There was a time when I thought that Ayushmann made a mistake by choosing the script but finally I got satisfied after watching the climax.

Bareilly Ki Barfi is not a love triangle. It's a Rom-Com which depicts people who find their desired lovers in a person and what happens thereafter. People want to love someone who they have desired, who they feel are good looking, and attractive too. But let me remind you that Ashwiny doesn't wack you on your head for remembering the key points, in turn she illustrates them like a zephyr.

I'm going with eight out of ten and two big thumbs up for Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's Bareilly Ki Barfi. It's probably one of the best films of 2017. Hope you make the time for it.
