From the very beginning, something felt a little off. The film opened with a montage of scenes from past MI movies, but instead of being nostalgic, it came across as a bit cheesy-like it was reminding me I was just watching a movie. Much of the film leaned too heavily into drama: the characters, the dialogues, the acting... everything felt exaggerated. This was especially noticeable with the submarine crew and the President's advisers. Even the way some scenes were shot-with overly dramatic camera angles-added to that feeling. On top of that, the editing felt a little choppy. Grace's character, too, didn't feel as consistent compared to her portrayal in the previous installment.
That said, the movie absolutely delivers in its action. Two standout sequences alone make it worth watching. Credit where it's due-Tom Cruise and the team really pulled off something spectacular there. I just wish the script had been stronger to match the scale of the stunts.
