A hilarious but heartbreaking story of a young man who constantly daydreams about a fantasy land to escape his mundane life. He lies his way through certain situations which creates a load of problems that he has to get through each day. These include him being engaged to two women who are both clueless to the fact that they are sharing the same ring. However, at the same time he is in love with a third. This is a really well written film that i highly recommend. It has some hilariously funny moments but some emotional ones too, with an ending that's actually quite tragic. I don't mean in a Shakespeare sense or anything but in a certain way that makes you feel for the character. The performances are all great with Tom Courtenay playing Billy perfectly and Julie Christie appearing in one of her breakthrough roles. The director of the film, John Schlesinger has actually gone on to win oscars in America with hits such as Midnight Cowboy and Marathon Man.
Check this out if you can but it might be quite hard to find.
