The show had moments of brilliance, mixed with the usual inexplicable character's lapses of judgement.
For example, Kiera's insistance on Brad caused the death of dozens of police officers and many deaths throughout the show..
.. I always have a rule... I call it the baldilox clause... found the show in january 2025 and decided to watch it again in december.
As usual, Canada delivers when it comes to character driven speculative scifi and fantasy....
X Files, 4400, Lost Girl... Orphan Black... Battlestar Galactica... Firefly...
but I always say,
replace the main character in a fairy-tale with a balding, normal, slightly overweight man in his late 40s and see if the story still makes sense... If it does, the you have a great story on your hands... well, at least a logical one.
But this is where this story falls down.. So much slack was given to Kiera because she was a fashion forward, slightly awkward model tier beauty everyone fell over to give her a pass to do so many borderline unconscionable acts it made me have to pause and take stock several times.
I fear that season 4 only held up because our Protag was a beautiful lady and only Kellog's conscious admission of her beauty made the story palatable
credit where credit's due: this show managed to wrap up cleanly without a Firefly in sight.
Overall, a great, but flawed, concept.

As a child of the seventies and a teen of the eighties, I have to say I dig the early 2000s vibes in this pilot ep. The denim, the close shaved, complete lack of stubble. The slick hair and the girls who somehow (OMG) managed without a metric fk tonne of plastic surgery, lip filler and camper sized ass cheeks.
Even the girl who was supposed to be putting it out there would be considered staid by today's standards.
The show is dated 2009 but it's set in a small town and reminds me of those Halcyon days of yore.
The protagonist is someone I can identify with, someone who gets another chance at reliving his youth...
But this never comes without a price attached.
