In 2018 Ari Aster brought us one of the greatest horror films ever created in hereditary. Nearly perfect in every detail moving swiftly from a family drama into a world of pure horror. The family dynamics in that film are just beautifully portrayed. It would of worked alone as just that, a family drama but then it catapults into an incredibly well developed horror with an unforeseeable wonderful final act..
Moving on from that we've had limited success, midsommer was ok, beau is afraid, as outlandish as it is funny if watchable so I was hoping for so much from this film..
Sadly it is an absolute mess.
I get the intention and I'm some ways it works. A look from the outside at the completely insane world we all lived through during COVID. A time I think we won't recover from as a species for many years, not because of the virus, not because of George Floyd but the separation these key events caused to us as a species.
I'm many years this film will serve to show the extremities of that time to those that didn't experience it first hand. It's educational purpose undeniable but as a movie now.. it just didn't bring anything to the table.. We don't need to look inward. Most of us already have and still are after that period...
I'm still hoping he'll one day bring us something to the table that will reflect his true ability that he first showed in 2018. That film will go down in history, this will be forgotten..

I wasn't a massive fan of either of the prequels. The whole genre has been done to death and they always felt like bargain bucket entries to me. With that said they had nice cinematics and soundtrack but the stories always lacked substance.
They were however bearable to watch and not overly offensive. This entry however was.
I nearly switched it off twenty minutes in. The constant random "symbolic" visuals and grating soundtrack really began to annoy me as did the actors.
It's standard fair at best for the genre therein. A completely unbelievable twist in the second act was hilarious. We all know where that's headed though.. it's all been done before.
The ending was just bizarre and more than a wee bit daft but sets us up for another entry in the series which I'm sure will please the fanboys. I won't be bothering.
The whole thing was more of a flop than what was dangling between the infected Neanderthals legs on the train..

This movie sums up literally everything that's wrong with the world today.
It starts off quite well then steadily disintegrates into pure pap.
The main character is a completely dislikeable entitled teen who talks to her father like dog doo whilst he pussy foots around her as he doesn't want to hurt her feelings. This is where my opening comment comes in. He should of shut that straight down.. it's all too often the story now.
So straight away we have a dislikable main character pitiful parent.
So.. she does that then we're treated to more of her with a face like a slapped backside mumbling miserably to a group of equally irritating mumbling entitled miseries...
We stopped watching it after about 15 minutes... Even the thought of watching them being probably really colourfully slaughtered didn't entice us to be in the company of those characters any longer.
If you're an entitled teen, new to the world let alone horror you'll probably relate and like it. I guess that was the target audience and I'm being unkind. But for a grown up, who would never of considered talking to his parents like rubbish let alone let his children get away with it, this movie massively sucked..
