  • One of the things you prefer to unsee

I don't mind gore. I watched True Blood more times than I dare to admit. I watched Bones and All until the end, just to see how low it could go. And it was quite low.

Performance-wise, I think the idea of the cast was to use the contrast between the actors' physical fragility and their brutality. But there was no chemistry between them, despite the actors' efforts. The real problem was the script and that the world building basically ends with the understanding what she is and that there are many of them. After that, it's some kind of teen drama. Details like - why there are so many of them, how come nobody persecutes them, how come they are not organized in any way, how they survive at all (biologically) - are not addressed at all. And if it's supposed to be horror - it's not. It's more disgusting than scary. I literally watched the whole movie just to see who's gonna end Bones and All. And I guessed correctly. So...I do not recommend. The best thing in the film were the views and the small town people who I really enjoyed.

  • Great story, great execution, too much wokeness

I didn't know the story is based on a comics - I found it out from the imdb reviews. I didn't even know what it's gonna be about, I just had a feeling I'd like it and when I had time, I binge-watched it. And I loved it.

I love the dark atmosphere and the gloomy Morpheus, the Greek mythology foundations, the way the characters are built and the way the story evolves. I don't mind the slow pace, it worked for me to create a dreamy state which is perfect for the story. Contrary to the reviews I saw, I enjoyed more the second part, because it is when we got some action and when the characters stopped being just weird.

I need to say it. There's too much wokeness and it hurts the story and shrinks the possible audience. Don't get me wrong - I don't mind people with different orientations. But if only 1/3 of the characters are not on spectrum, that bothers me. I cannot watch this with my partner, because even though the show is great, he wouldn't like that everyone is gay and/or trans. I wish the producers didn't go that wild with the gender assignments. I think more people would have enjoyed the show.

In any case, I'm looking forward to the second season because the quality of the story and the world-building gives me enough satisfaction to be able to ignore what I don't like. But well, I'm growing more and more tired of shows betting on sexuality to drive views.

  • It starts with a True Blood energy but then it loses it

I liked the series, the plot starts more or less standard and then evolves into something pretty cool. The naive scientist, the woman-fighter and the charming monster. I particularly liked the island episodes as they reminded me of Lost. As a whole, the chemistry between the 3 main characters is great and gave me the hope we'll see something like a love triangle. I guess this is why I got progressively upset after episode 9. Maybe because I was really thinking about something like True Blood where everybody has a very questionable morality. In this case, however, the morality wins and things get very black and white. Which dissipates the energy. The characters simple do not change, they don't have an arc, they do what they do. Also I need to warn anyone watching this, the mortality rate is something like True Blood. People just die and die and die. But anyway it was fun binge-watchin and I looked for season 2 and I was a bit disappointed it got canceled. With better writers, it could be a fun world to explore.
