I'm being as honest as possible with this review (as always), if you are really into slasher movies like Friday the 13th for example give it a watch. Our hulking mass killer's name is Johnny this time, Johnny rises from the dirt when some guy takes his necklace which he got from his father. And everyone who get's in Johnny's way has to die, the kills are well made and gory as always. This movie by the way got well known (if i'm right) for one very creative kill, i just watched it a few minutes ago. And they really went creative with this particular kill, i have no problem with the movie, I gave it a 7. But some people might dislike it because of the way it was filmed, the thing is... you get to see Johnny almost all the time, he walks and walks and walks and walks. Until he sees some fresh meat, I understand that some viewers might get turned off because of the way some scenes are filmed. It doesn't bother me at all, nothing wrong with trying something different. Hey at least Johnny has a cool mask a hatchet and a meathook, ignore negativity and just enjoy the movie and see it for your self.
I'm a bit in the middle at the moment watching this classic Shaw Brothers movie, it starts with a very bloody series of executions. A few men get stabbed to their deaths with spears, later on they get saved. Like in any other kung fu movie this goes together with a big fight, the movie is quite enjoyable like any other of the most movies from Shaw Brothers. I don't remember watching any bad ones, anyway i was a bit bothered when i read that Deadly Duo received a PG13 rating in the US. I'm watching the dutch subtitled vhs and it's really bloody, so the only thing i could think of is that you guys got a heavily cut version. Come on there's spraying blood, someone gets axed in the neck. Bloody stabbings, an R rating would have been more suitable for this movie. Don't expect a gorefest, but it's just all very bloody. Just the way i like my action movies.
This is what you get if Frank Hennenlotter and John Waters would make a movie together, a completely messed up movie like you have never seen before. It's about a son and his dad, who has a obsession with grease, the son (who by the way looks hilariousily ugly) says that he's 18 years old but looks like a balding 40 year old is a bit of a sad guy who finally thinks that he found himself a girl. His dad is a perverted freak who's a bit of a nudist, and then you also get a grease covered... man who enjoys strangeling people. What can i say about this movie, i think it's repulsive, insane and very very original. I didn't mention Hennenlotter and Waters not for nothing, the whole movie is over the top absurdism. Go look for it and watch it with a few like minded friends, this movie is totally crazy.
