This movie is good. It's got drama and comedy. It's intellectual and thought provoking. It makes some good points about the arts, and about the types of upper class liberal white people in that world and some of their hypocrisy. And for these reasons I liked it and am giving it a good solid 7. But the reason I'm not giving it more than a 7 and why it lost a few stars is that it is a very slow movie...and while some of the slow scenes are a good slow (like "slow burn"), many of them are not, they are very dragging and left me asking why they were holding this same shot for so long and why they don't just get on with it. Many of these scenes that have very long shots are not providing us with something extraordinarily artistic/aesthetic to look at, not helping to drive the plot forward, not provoking emotion, and not serving any real purpose. I'm ready for the next shot after a few seconds and yet the shots will just drag on and on and on with nothing happening. And this happens so frequently that in the end the movie is just way too long and slow, and the pacing only gets worse and worse as the movie goes on and there are more and more of these bad slow shots and less actually happening in the story. The entire 3rd act is just a drag in which I felt uncomfortable, was no longer enjoying the movie, and was just waiting for it to end and the only reason I was continuing to watch at all is because I had already invested so much time watching it and was hoping the end was near. Little to nothing happens in the 3rd act and it was entirely unenjoyable and should have been heavily edited. And all that patience wasn't even rewarded with a really good ending, but rather the opposite, it actually just pretty much falls apart at the end and like the rest of the 3rd act, little happens, and then the movie just ends without any real sense of closure or conclusion that an ending is supposed to have. The movie is terribly anti-climactic and its 3rd act is the opposite of what a 3rd act should and almost ruins the rest of the film - in fact because of it I won't want to watch this movie again, so it does ruin its re-watch-ability. Therein I give it a 7, and recommend it only to artists and intellectuals who would put up with such a slow pace just to get the food for thought that it gives (and really only does early on).
This is not a show about rock, or sex or drugs for that matter. Its just another stupid formulaic sitcom about a dumb bumbling dad who has to be saved from his own buffoonery by the strong, independent, smart, stunning women in his life. He has a narcissistic daughter who is ugly but they try to make look hot for the show and make her act like she is a pretentious supermodel who thinks shes gods gift to mankind...and who thinks she is the best singer in the world even though she isn't any better than any other overproduced pop singer (which is what she is, not a rock singer). Pretty much everything she says and does is narcissistic to the point of being cringy and I hated every scene she was in. The music showcased sounds more like pop than rock, largely because it is centered around this young girl who is an up and coming pop star, not a rock star, and her dad who is the rock star doesn't actually do much singing. The show doesn't accurately portray the rock star lifestyle but is more centered around really dumb low brow humor based around the father being an incompetent idiot who is like a teenager who never grew up....and his narcissistic daughter who hijacks every episode and makes it about something else other than rock...like trying to seduce the guitarist and creating an uncomfortable situation, or trying to find out if her dad loves her even though they just met for the first time and also creating an uncomfortable situation. The daughter just makes the show uncomfortable and cringe and it is obvious that she is the star of the show and not her dad played by Dennis Leary, which is why the show is not about rock but pop, and is also more of a teen show than an adult show. Honestly I watched 4 episodes which is saying a lot because didn't enjoy a single moment of it but rather it was difficult to sit through. It is really frustrating that a show that was marketed as exemplifying the lifestyle of sex drugs and rock and roll isn't actually delivering that at all, but instead is only showcasing everything that is wrong with the music industry and pop culture. And its about feminism and how young girls need to be seen as sex icons and put on pedestals and glorified in their narcissism, and how men can't do anything right and need to be saved by women. This is what the show is about, and that is what you need to be prepared to see if you do not want to get disappointed.
This movie isn't a bad action movie. If its action you want you will probably be satisfied by this. Because when it comes to the action alone, this movie is not only lacking but it is among the most action packed movies of all time. However if you are looking for a movie that looks realistic - or plays out in any realistic seeming ways at all - you will be disappointed. This movie is not just over dramatized in every scene, but it is the most CGI heavy movie I've ever seen (more so than a sci fi or fantasy movie). The movie doesn't even look real, it looks like a video game. For some reason the CGI isn't more high def than the real shots, its lower def and you can almost always tell when CGI is being used. And of course they use the CGI to make the action faster, more intense and more crazy than action has ever been in any movie (and 10 times more than it ever gets in real life). The characters will be fighting and moving around in ways that are just humanly impossible, and when you are watching it with CGI its just not as satisfying as watching an actor move around in impressive ways that they had to train for and which show a great human feat. The CGI also makes guns fire in ways that are unrealistic, they turned every gun into an automatic machine gun, and they all fire insanely fast and almost never run out of bullets (even if they are small). As someone who doesn't enjoy video games, I obviously didn't like any of this about the movie. Honestly I did enjoy the movie a little but I had to literally TRY to enjoy it in spite of all the CGI I didn't like. I focused on the insane action and just tried to enjoy that since thats what I wanted. But all in all this movie just wasn't very well done.
